Serco has established itself as a trusted partner for European Institutions and various International Organisations. Over the last three decades, we have been delivering a comprehensive array of services, including ICT support, infrastructure management, operational development, and the administration of contact centres for key European entities across the continent. We are currently in search of a skilled and proactive Lead Network Engineering Consultant to enhance our operations.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and sustain configurations for data communication networks;
- Design, evaluate, and deploy network hardware and software solutions;
- Troubleshoot network issues using various analysis tools and methodologies;
- Manage network documentation (create/update/review) and technical specifications;
- Set up and oversee network monitoring and management systems;
- Enforce and supervise network security protocols;
- Assess network capacity and forecast utilization trends;
- Review existing network software and recommend enhancements in line with best practices;
- Conduct log file reviews and analyze network traces and dumps;
- Collaborate with vendors providing network services and equipment.
A minimum of 4 years of relevant academic education (master's degree or equivalent) following secondary education.
Experience RequirementsAt least 9 years of pertinent professional experience, ideally in the following areas:
- DNS and IP management;
- LAN protocols (including Spanning Tree Protocol and VLAN trunking);
- TCP/IP, RIP, OSPF, BGP, and/or EIGRP;
- WAN network structures and hardware (MPLS, Private Line);
- Network Management tools (such as IXIA, netflow).
- In-depth understanding of principles, practices, and procedures related to Local and Wide Area Networks (LAN/WAN);
- Expertise in network configurations;
- Proficient in Internet-Protocol based LAN/WAN administration, with knowledge of Cisco ACI being advantageous;
- Strong background in Firewall/VPN/load balancer configuration and troubleshooting (Cisco, Stonegate, F5 products are a plus);
- Comprehensive knowledge of network configuration and troubleshooting, including DNS, VLAN, IP routing, LAN, WAN, and Site-to-Site VPN;
- Capability to perform network capacity planning;
- Excellent understanding of network security and the management of security devices;
- Proficient in encryption at the network layer and encryption protocols (SSL/TLS, IPSEC, etc.);
- Advanced knowledge of load balancing concepts, firewalls, switches (L2/L3), redundancy, and IP addressing;
- Familiarity with installation, deployment, and configuration backup/recovery of network devices;
- Ability to create, revise, and review documentation and technical specifications related to network infrastructures;
- Strong knowledge of network design, capacity planning, evolution, and monitoring;
- Understanding of common network topologies and cabling technologies (fiber/copper, ethernet, etc.);
- Relevant certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent, and IT Service Management/ITSM qualifications (ITIL/ISO/IEC 20000 or equivalent) would be beneficial;
- Experience in deploying IPv6 networks;
- Adaptability to rapidly changing technologies in network infrastructures and design;
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage in meetings effectively;
- Ability to thrive in an international/multicultural environment, demonstrating rapid self-starting capability and teamwork experience.
