NLP Research Scientist in Generative AI

Meta is on the lookout for Research Scientists with a focus on Natural Language Processing (NLP) to be part of its Generative AI (GenAI) division. Our team is recognized for publishing influential research, including the notable Llama-2 paper. We are eager to welcome skilled researchers experienced in NLP to collaborate with us on enhancing the capabilities of large foundational models through fine-tuning methodologies. The selected candidate(s) will engage with a diverse and interdisciplinary group of scientists, engineers, and cross-functional collaborators, gaining access to state-of-the-art technology, resources, and research facilities.

Responsibilities of the NLP Research Scientist in Generative AI (PhD):
  • Conduct innovative research aimed at enhancing the functionalities of foundational models through model fine-tuning.
  • Pursue ambitious long-term research objectives while identifying key intermediate milestones.
  • Contribute to the advancement of relevant research communities by producing high-quality publications.
  • Deliver research that can be integrated into Meta's product development initiatives.
  • Lead and collaborate on research projects within a globally distributed team.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing or holding a PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • First-author publications in reputable AI conferences (e.g., *ACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR).
  • Hands-on experience in training, fine-tuning, and experimenting with foundational models beyond mere black-box applications.
  • Familiarity with one or more deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.).
  • Ability to articulate complex research findings effectively in both written and oral formats for peer audiences.
  • Must secure work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization throughout employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • High-impact publications in peer-reviewed AI conferences, evidenced by citations and other indicators of influence within the research community.
  • Experience in AI research that extends beyond the completion of a PhD.
  • Proficiency in developing and debugging beyond machine learning experimentation.
  • Experience in an industrial research setting.
  • Capability to coordinate research efforts among PhD students or other researchers.
  • Expertise in addressing complex problems and evaluating alternative solutions, trade-offs, and diverse perspectives to determine a viable path forward.
  • Experience in collaborative and cross-functional team environments.
