Research Scientist in Surface Characterization

ArcelorMittal, the world's largest steel producer, is seeking a highly skilled Research Engineer to join its Digital Technologies cluster in the Process lab. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for developing new solutions for product characterization, primarily focusing on steel product surfaces with coating.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in spectroscopy, surface characterization, and infrared techniques. You will work closely with academic laboratories and hardware suppliers to enhance our competencies in spectral and hyperspectral solution integration. Your expertise will be crucial in making the link between industrial objectives and physical phenomena to be monitored.
Key Responsibilities- Develop new solutions for product characterization, focusing on spectral and hyperspectral approaches.
- Make the link between industrial objectives and physical phenomena to be monitored.
- Interact with academic laboratories and hardware suppliers to enhance our competencies in spectral and hyperspectral solution integration.
- Work closely with the Digital Technologies cluster and other ArcelorMittal research areas to develop innovative solutions.
- Engineer degree, Master degree, or PhD in relevant discipline (spectroscopy, surface characterization, infrared, etc.).
- First professional experience is not required but could be valuable, especially in research and development.
- Knowledge/experience in spectroscopy, spectral analysis, data acquisition, and processing.
- Knowledge/experience in programming languages such as Python.
- Innovative, curious, and results-oriented.
- Ability to run laboratory experiments and trials in industrial plant contexts.
- Excellent social skills to work in project teams within a multi-cultural environment.
- Ability to travel worldwide.
- Fluent in English, French would be a plus.
