Nokia Standards is responsible for research and standardization activities related to 5G and 6G cellular networks and collaboration with internal and external experts to advance the technology landscape as well as to protect Intellectual Property.

**What you will learn and contribute to**

Network Automation is a crucial area to allow network operators to allow for cost-efficient deployment and operation of (beyond) 5G networks. An important aspect is to assure multi-vendor interoperability by openness (e.g., open source projects, OSSii) and standardization (3GPP SA5, ETSI ZSM, ORAN).

To further strengthen our leadership in Network Automation Research & Standards beyond 5G, we look for a Senior Research Engineer with the focus on the following areas:

- Research and Experimentation in AI applied to Mobile Network Automation:

- Use cases in the RAN, Core and E2E domains
- Data science methodology and workflow: data acquisition and exploration, AI model experimentation and evaluation, visualization

As part of the team, you will:

- Pro-actively and continuously identify emerging topics in Network Automation and drive internal discussions on technical concepts
- Develop AI-based automation concepts for beyond 5G networks along the whole lifecycle (LCM, configuration, troubleshooting, performance management) and validate them by experimental work (real network data
- and simulation-based)
- Lead a work package / task within a large internal program
- Lead and contribute to experimental system development, including platform and feature planning and overall system setup (local
- / cloud-based, network data
- / simulation-based and combinations: “digital twin”)
- Coordinate and integrate requirements and contributions from different research projects, implement new features
- Support the standardization backoffice
- Protect the generated intellectual property by patents, contribute to the implementation of patents in standards, review of inventions from others

**Your skills and experience**
- MSc degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. A PhD is a plus.
- 3 years of professional expertise in Analytics and Artificial Intelligence methods: statistical, probabilistic and machine learning techniques (e.g., Neural Networks, Reinforcement Learning)
- Very good track record in implementing data science workflows: network data analysis, tooling, working with AI frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, pytorch) on networking use cases
- Prior proof-of-concept development and integration incl. hands-on IT skills (Linux / Windows installations, managing a lab network), network simulation (e.g., NS-3)
- Good expertise in state-of-the-art wireless communication systems (focus on 3GPP) and their automation

It would be nice if you also had:

- Strong analytical skills and eager to find innovative/disruptive solutions to problems
- Self-motivated, passionate and hands-on; equally interested in AI and mobile network technology
- Good written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Ability to adapt to, work in and lead international and multi-site virtual teams (research / experimental SW development), good interpersonal skills
