BIOASTER is the only Technological Research Institute in the field of health in France. Dedicated to infectiology and microbiology, it brings together the skills of industry and public research to respond to health issues related to infectious diseases. A scientific cooperation foundation endowed with its own infrastructure and resources, the IRT BIOASTER is firmly committed to economic and industrial development, creating wealth and jobs.
Position
**I - MISSION**:
This position reports to the CTO and supervises 3 main disciplines: Optical Systems, Cellular Analysis and Immunoassays, Microfluidic Microsystems and Organ on Chip, so a team of around 15 people, based in Lyon and Paris.
As part of BIOASTER's scientific and development strategy, to which he/she contributes, the Technology Unit Manager manages his/her area of responsibility in order to carry out high-quality scientific projects. He/she creates the conditions for technological innovation through effective internal and external synergies and pooling.
He/she promotes the integration of his/her unit's know-how and technological offering into BIOASTER's collaborative projects, in response to issues identified by both academic and industrial partners.
**II - MAIN ACTIVITIES**:

- Organizes and manages the unit, delegating roles and defining priorities to meet business challenges.
- Builds and manages budgets, identifying investment and resource requirements, with a view to efficiency and entrepreneurship.
- Guarantees the quality of project maturation and responses to partners:
Clarify expressed needs
Identify resources and manage deadlines
Accompany and challenge the unit's activity managers in the construction of their technological responses, risk analyses and the production of quotations, which he validates.
Contribute to identified international, European or non-governmental calls for tender in his/her field.
Build innovative responses in his/her field of reference, involving partners and Business Development whenever necessary.
- Guarantees quality of execution, with the aim of meeting contractual commitments to partners and generating sales:
Accompany and challenge business managers to harmonize and systematize approaches, ensure the robustness of the scientific approach and compliance with good experimentation practices. Validate deliverables.
Have an overall view of the resources and skills mobilized in his/her unit, anticipate difficulties, propose short and medium-term solutions to meet deadlines and manage peaks and troughs.
Dealing with hazards, proposing solutions
- Leads and coordinates the unit's technological developments:
Promote synergies between the unit's technologies, with a view to integration.
Identify technological topics to be investigated and/or proposed within the framework of Road maps programs and monitoring in its field.

**Skills**:

- Proven experience in team and scientific project management,
- PhD in life sciences, minimum 10 years' research experience in a healthcare environment (academic laboratory, biotech, pharmaceutical group), ideally following an engineering career.
- One major skill required in one of the 3 fields below and 2 minor skills in the other two fields.

Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology,
Applied physical measurements,
Integrated biosystems engineering, with a focus on Machine Learning and Deep Learning algorithms.
- Appetence for interdisciplinary approaches integrating cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry, microfluidics and optics to generate new bio-analytical tools ranging from cell models to organs-on-a-chip.
- Knowledge and/or practice of the following methods and techniques
- Cytometry, cell models, immunoassays and their analysis tools.
- Design and manufacture of microfluidic microsystems applied to biology.
- Experience in the development of systems integrating sample preparation, fluidic-biosensor development and coupling, and optical measurement/detection system development.
- Skills in electrochemistry would be a plus.
- Fluent in English and French.
