**About the role**: Your role is to carry out a PhD on the: "Societal, environmental and economic impacts of digital infrastructures". The digital transition impacts all economic sectors and in particular network operators, with the technical fragmentation of networks, the fragmentation of network players, and the future generation of networks. In the meantime, the environmental transition is leading us towards two-dimensional accounting, financial & carbon. Tomorrow, other dimensions will be added, to integrate new environmental impacts, such as water or biodiversity. Today, to understand how these two transitions are articulated, it is necessary to better understand the social, societal, environmental and economic impacts specific to Information and Communication Technology (ICT). **Scientific objective - results and obstacles to overcome** The purpose of the PhD is to model the ICT social, societal, environmental and economic impacts, by analyzing on the one hand the impact of the sector in itself, but also its impact on other economic sectors such as industry, housing, or transport. The first issue to address will be to question the evolution of ICT, its offers, services and infrastructures by 2030 and to identify a handful of social, societal, environmental and economic indicators. These indicators will make it possible to model the impact of future ICT architectures with, for example, energy consumption, carbon footprint, avoided carbon, hydraulic footprint, biodiversity footprint, economic value, territorial inclusivity, human inclusivity and other Company Social Responsibility criteria. The work will continue by modeling the environmental footprint of our future network architectures and operational models, to optimize their benefit/cost ratio, from Cloud RAN to disaggregation, by analyzing the different architectures of edge computing, 6G and its various macro-functions, but also data center resources. The link with the increase in the number of user terminals will also have to be integrated. This modeling will contribute to the identification of network deployment trajectories compatible with the Paris agreements and the carbon neutrality commitments of telcos, taking into account constrained and limited resources. The second challenge will be to integrate digital resources (calculation, storage and connectivity) into economic modeling such as the one under construction by the IRIS project led by Carbone4 or the RICE/DICE model by William D Nordhaus used in the AI for global Climate Cooperation initiative. **About you**: **Skills (scientific and technical) and personal qualities required by the position** Your analytical mind is one of your strengths. You are comfortable with writing, both in French and English, and have good communication skills. **Required training** Issued from higher education, in college or university, you are driven by your awareness of sustainability stakes. You understand the basis of life cycle analysis and eco-design. Knowledge of fixed and mobile network architectures would be appreciated. **Desired experiences** Driven by your desire to contribute to the rise of a more sustainable business model, you are particularly eager the understand both positive and negative impacts of the digital sector.
