**About the role**: Your role is to carry out thesis work on: " Photonics for flexible and efficient optical access networks". Optical networks are constantly evolving to meet the growing number of digital uses with specific constraints requiring transmissions that guarantee increasingly higher speeds and resilience, increasingly lower latencies and jitters. On the last kilometers of wired telecommunications networks, different topologies of optical access networks are deployed today depending on the end usage: fiber in PON or PtP connectivity for residential, mobile, or business customers. The aim of this thesis is to propose innovative architectures and solutions that provide more flexibility for more efficiency in transmissions, with end-to-end equipment or even networks that adapt as closely as possible to the service need while being less energy intensive. Fiber to the home is equipped with a technological generation developed more than 20 years ago and the new generation is about to reach us to offer a speed of up to 10Gbit/s in fiber. Orange is already ready to go beyond, with research work carried out on 50G-PON and transmissions at 100Gbit/s and beyond. To do this, the very latest technologies in photonics and electronics are studied and developed in our laboratories to serve the networks of the future, as grounds of innovative and valuable services for the group. This thesis will aim to prepare part of the networks of the future, to increase the efficiency of our performance and energy while developing new services thanks to all photonics and fiber everywhere. The main scientific objective of the thesis is to provide flexibility on speeds, latency, consumption and connectivity in fixed access networks. The main scientific or technical challenges to be met are as follows: - Size and build more efficient networks (no longer only in relation to peak throughput) - Reduce the number of active nodes (centralization of OLTs and/or certain network functions, node hosting network convergence (fixed, mobile, etc.) - Identify new usage opportunities for optical networks (Fibre to everywhere) To remove these obstacles, we propose to develop several approaches during the thesis, with mainly experimental work: - Innovate by offering flexible network architectures and equipment: hardware self-configuration as close as possible to the need for transmission capacity, finding range extension solutions (>20km)/optical switching to reduce the number of active nodes or avoid supernumerary optical/electrical/optical conversion, manage flexibility according to service demand (dynamic connectivity), optimize consumption in relation to performance - Define the necessary capacity of flexible network nodes: temporal analysis and consumption of residential, mobile, business traffics by geographical area, identify changes in uses and services of the networks of the future **About you**: Your profile: O You have an interest in experimental and multidisciplinary work O You like working in a team and want to share your knowledge and experiences O You express curiosity about new technologies and their implementations.
