Research Engineer in Steelmaking

R&D Maizières Process lab is dedicated to supporting ArcelorMittal’s production plants competitiveness, quality and sustainability by the development or improvement of innovative processes or processing routes (from cokemaking to metallic coating).

ArcelorMittal Europe is committed to reduce CO2 emissions by 35% by 2030 and to be carbon neutral by 2050. In the coming decades, steel production will deeply transform, moving to a generalized usage of DRI and scraps in the early steps of the metallurgical routes for the production of liquid steel.

**Your role**

As a Research engineer in the Steelmaking department of ArcelorMittal R&D, you will directly be involved in this transformation by leading studies and giving support to the plants to tackle the challenges created by the new processes involved (metallurgy, productivity, quality,...) and propose evolution and optimization of the production practices.

You will:

- Participate in R&D projects for the development of new or optimized processes in ArcelorMittal industrial plants.
- Work closely with ArcelorMittal industrial plants with frequent business trips to provide expertise for technical assistance (e.g. solve quality or process issues).
- Design, organize and analyze process trials from lab to industrial scale, including 6t pilot scale in Maizières facilities.
- Interact with the whole ArcelorMittal community: Global R&D specialists and technicians, plant experts, corporate teams, etc. and develop collaborative research with external partners (academic laboratories, technical centres, suppliers).

**Your profile**
- You hold a Masters' degree in Material Science or Process Engineering.
- A first experience in the field of steelmaking, process or chemical engineering, metallurgy, process support or operation would be appreciated.
- You have a solid scientific background: material science (metallurgy if possible), thermodynamic, process engineering.
- Your English is fluent and your French is intermediate.
- Knowledge in Computational Fluid Dynamics modelling and/or coding languages (like C++, Fortran, Python, VBA) is a plus.
- You have excellent social skills to work in project teams within a multi-cultural environment and different factories.
- You have the ability to travel worldwide.
