**About the role**
Volnay#01 is a US-based biotechnology company operating in Paris and developing pioneering gene delivery technologies to provide innovative therapies for patients. We are looking for a highly motivated and talented R&D Director to join and manage our R&D team, with proven skills in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology. The position is located in Paris.
**What you'll do**
- Lead the R&D strategy by designing, implementing, and managing the customized solutions for the validation of the potency and safety of our gene delivery platform
- Provide internal expertise to drive the R&D strategy, to define mitigation and/or back-up strategies to develop the gene delivery platform
- Demonstrate ability to engage and effectively influence team members across multidisciplinary teams while prioritizing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
- Lead from the bench, mentoring junior team members to ensure best laboratory practices and scientific rigor in a diversified range of projects
- Build collaborative networks both internal and external to the company to ensure rapid communication and cross-functional evaluations and investigation
- Review and present data cross-functionally at department meetings and larger forums.
- Comply with standard laboratory practices and company policies, including strict notebook documentation and biosafety policies.
- Write documentations for any submissions needed for patents, regulatory summaries (IND, CTA, BLA, briefing books, Investigator Brochures etc.), scientific communications etc.
- Represent Volnay#01 in the external scientific environment
- Drive curiosity, scientific rigor, and excellent problem-solving skills across a fast-paced performance driven environment
**What we're looking for**
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in biotech industry.
- Experience in designing gene delivery vectors and characterizing their performance using analytical tools and cell-based potency assays.
- Skills in genetic engineering, cell biology, cloning and molecular biology.
- Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, flexible, and able to prioritize and manage several fast-paced projects concurrently.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams as a strong team player as well as independently.
- Develop and mentor a high-performing team of scientists and engineers with a vision of setting industry-leading scientific standards and innovation.
- Manage the functional component of business planning and own budget accountability for the function.
- A proficient level of English is required for this role, due to the international stakes of the company's development
