As a member of an **international product safety and regulatory affairs team**, the Product Safety Engineer works to check the compliance of products for global markets and therefore assure compliance with applicable regulations and standards. The Product Safety engineer manages new projects and project changes through assessments and testing coordination with internal project teams worldwide, external laboratories and providers. He/she defines product safety requirements to purchase raw materials. He/she builds & manages technical documentation and data. He /she reviews the compliancy when regulation is updated. He/she manages the safety requests from the customers and consumers and gives support in building argumentation to answer advocacy group and authorities. He/ she manages all the external providers as well as the budget associated. The Product Safety Engineer, will be in charge of: - **Projects coordination and support**: For new products validation, work with global manufacturing sites, R&D, Quality, project managers based worldwide to determine what testing needs to be accomplished to meet specific regulations for the designated marketplace. Provide safety specifications to consider for raw materials sourcing. Coordinate the necessary testing with external laboratories and consultants to meet manufacturing deadlines. Manage Laboratories and other providers involved in the assessment of the product compliancy. Communicate the results of the testing to the various teams and provide support. Define and follow the corrective action plan to put in place in case of non-compliancy. Create and follow the annual control plan on the portfolio. Build and Follow the budget accordingly. - **Data Management (paper files, electronic files, and test data)**: Maintain an internal documentation library for electronic filing, track test results for trend analysis, and manage a system for tracking product changes and corresponding test reports. Create and maintain updated a strong process system for all product safety activities. In addition, this activity involves the continuous improvement effort of updating tracking systems by looking for gaps and creating new procedures to guarantee efficiency. This task involves the creation of technical mandatory file per product such as technical files for toys, Product information file for Cosmetics and MSDS for all chemicals. - **Communication**: Notify, declare, register to various authorities, create and update compliance forms for the import/export of BIC products (declaration in poison center,... ). Monitor news updates from various regulatory sources and communicate applicable changes to internal team to determine if any action must be taken. Attend webinars and conferences calls pertaining to the industry to communicate any new or changing regulations and standards. Create General Conformity Certificates, manage the safety requests from the customers and consumers and give support in building argumentation to answer advocacy group and authorities Give also safety advices such as safety requirements for labelling, for supporting a claim, for quality control and train internal Bic teams on safety topics (legal, Factories, R&D, quality, Supply,... ) **Qualifications** - Chemical Engineering, Master's Degree in an engineering or scientific field, preferably related to chemistry - Strong project management, organizational, planning and coordination skills. - Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to formulate advice, to convince. - Fluent English required, used working across borders, if possible, in a global organization - Knowledge and experience with European regulations, standards, or topics related to safety and chemistry such as CLP, REACH, Biocides, Toy Safety Directive, Toy Standards, SIN List, BS7272... , - Knowledge or experience with other regulation in US, Australia, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico... as well as Experience with consumer products - Knowledge in processes and chemical data management systems - Attention to detail is critical, maintaining accurate, detailed documentation and files. - Ability to analyze, interpret, & use scientific, technological and regulatory data - 1 to 5 years of experience in product safety and regulatory affairs, in consumer goods (retail or industry
