Technical Program Manager for Migrations

Technical Project Managers are responsible for managing the pre-sales activities for migration projects involving third-party solutions or vendors. They coordinate the Professional Services team assigned to scope migration projects and prepare a Statement of Work that can later be handled by the delivery team. They will play an active role during pre-sales phases to co-develop and explain standard or bespoke migration approaches, and how Fortinet Professional Services approach leads to successful projects.
Technical Project Managers are expected to manage a virtual team comprising Customer Contacts, Fortinet Sales, Professional Services, Engineering, and Technical Support to ensure technically sound, financially profitable, and supportable implementations. The position requires an individual with exceptional negotiation, written, and verbal communication skills who follows a structured approach to implementing network security solutions.
The Technical Project Manager role is a position that requires solid technical skills, deep project scoping, and delivery experience. The Technical Project Manager needs experience in the technological aspects of the Fortinet solution being proposed to Customers; besides this, third-party migration projects require an understanding of both third-party solutions being replaced and an understanding of the FortiGate solution to be deployed. It required the ability as well to improve existing methodologies and work with the technical team to develop and document new ways of helping customers in their transformation programs which may encompass multiple transitions.
The Technical Project Manager should assess risks and develop migration techniques accordingly. Constantly learning and understanding how solutions are implemented is a must to under customer requirements and put together a scope of activities that meets business, project, and technical requirements.
The technical knowledge and field experience will help to drive scoping activities, identify technical challenges and solutions, and provide the right guidance to the engineers or consultants involved on the definition of the Statement of Work. The technical project manager is also responsible for ensuring consistency within the Services organization in proposals where transformations can be complex. Examples: larger scale migrations, multi-regional deployments, re-design (vs like-for-like), big-bang vs phased approaches, validation and acceptance techniques, concurrent changes, co-existence of various solutions, etc.
A proven track record in the implementation of technically complex solutions is a key element of the position that is offered.
**Responsibilities**
- Masters existing migration methodologies, develop new ones together with technical teams, document them, and present them whenever appropriate as part of pre-sales activities.
- Creates and develops with diverse technical teams complex Statement of Works, involving the integration of multiple technologies; this may include putting together related high-level project plans.
- Ensures consistent, coherent, and sensible proposals are created, in particular for complex proposals.
- Performs risk management analysis to minimize project risks at delivery and follow actions.
- Manages the relationship with the customer and all stakeholders.
- Coordinates internal resources for the flawless preparation of the Statement of Work.
- Works closely with all customer-facing Fortinet functions, including mainly account managers, SE and CSE, to coordinate scoping activities.
- Facilitates team and client meetings effectively.
- Creates and maintains comprehensive project documentation as part of a scoping phase that will be handed over to the delivery team.
- Assures project legal documents are completed and signed before handing over the project for delivery.
- Understands how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.
- Manages escalations with all levels internally and externally to achieve success.
**Job Requirements**
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Project or Program Management role.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in complex transformation projects with a clear understanding of operational constraints customers would typically face.
- Solid technical background, with an understanding of security, networking skills, and related technologies.
- Experience with networking and security projects ideally including conversions
- Knowledgeable on SDWAN, Advanced routing with BGP, VPN/IPSEC, and related technologies.
- Knowledgeable on Zero trust access, SASE, SSE, Endpoint security, SWG, DLP, URL filtering, & Proxy concepts, and related technologies.
- Prior experience implementing security or SASE solution with vendors like Checkpoint, Palo Alto, Cisco, Juniper, Netskope, and Zscaler is a plus.
