Research Engineer in Computer Vision

The job is proposed in the Measurement, Control and Data sciences Department, part of the Process Research Lab inside the Maizières-lès-Metz Campus, the largest research center of ArcelorMittal Global R&D. The mission of this Department of about 40 people (researchers, engineers, technicians, PhD, trainees) is to develop and deploy on plants advanced solutions for processes monitoring and optimization in one hand and quality product control in the other hand. The scope of technologies is very large: sensors, IoT, vision (standard, IR, hyperspectral), non-destructive technics, automatism, models, IA... and the challenges very exciting: digitalization of the processes (industry 4.0) and decarbonization.

In the context of digitalization, plants claim for automatization of manual tasks, in particular when quality control is required.
The MCD department is a reference for the group to develop new systems based on vision to bring solution to perform such controls.

**Your role**

You will be involved in several research activities in which you will have the responsibility to:

- Develop and prototype vision systems softwares for product quality control or process monitoring using state of the art computer vision algorithms and strategies
- Manage research projects: imagine and initiate new solutions, coordinate internal and external collaborations, take in charge running research projects including real time image inference through AI pipelines on hardware
- Provide technical support to the plants or to other teams in R&D (metallurgy and product development, process improvement, energy optimization,...): support the installation of new systems, analyze supplier offers, set-up, tune and optimize the performances of existing systems, set-up dedicated vision-based systems including developing/optimizing image processing softwares and tools

More broadly, you will have access to testing facilities, laboratory in developement projects or technical assistance activities.

**Your profile**
- You hold a Masters' degree or a PhD in Image Processing, Computer Vision or Deep Learning Engineering.
- You have knowledge of hardware systems for real-time embedded processing (FPGA, ASICS,...).
- You have experience in a programming language such as C, C++, Python and computer vision libraries (OpenCV).
- A professional background in computer vision projects development will be a plus.
- You are fluent in English and French.
- You are able to run laboratory experiments as well as trials in industrial plants context.
- You are innovative, curious and results oriented.
- You have outstanding communication skills, excellent social skills when working on a project with a multi-cultural environment.
- You are willing to travel worldwide.
