**The team you'll be part of**
Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced nine Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.
Nokia Bell Labs is exploring radical new ideas to address the challenges that 6G networks will be confronted with, including the demand for extreme connectivity, latency, reliability and capacity, as well as massive energy efficiency. In our labs near Paris, our team is shaping the future of wireless communications by investigating novel AI-based approaches to wireless protocol stacks. We have already delivered ground-breaking AI innovations in the physical layer. Now, with your help, ambition and ingenuity, we intend to revolutionize the way protocol stacks are made, with the help of machine learning techniques.
**What you will learn and contribute to**
The biggest challenge for next-gen communication systems in the upcoming decade is to support a large increase in data consumption while also meeting the energy consumption targets through the intelligent usage of the networks. A plurality of radio protocols will be needed to orchestrate this harmonious dance of the bits. Come and help us leverage AI and ML to invent the wireless protocols of the future.
As part of our team, you will:
- Design novel ML techniques to improve/create wireless protocols
- Formulate optimization problems in 6G wireless networks and solve them
- Validate ideas through air interface related modelling and system/link-level simulations
- Generate intellectual property through patents
- Disseminate research internally and externally through customer-based presentations, conference and scientific journal publications
**Your skills and experience**
You have:
- PhD in telecommunications, mathematics, physics or another relevant field
- Expertise in state-of-the-art cellular communication systems in areas such as MAC, protocols, and/or radio resource management.
- Expertise with machine learning and data science
It would be nice if you also had:
- Experience in Radio system simulations and/or link-level simulations.
- Expertise in 5GNR, E2E radio network architectures, networking protocols.
- An innovative and creative mind
- Strong communication skills (writing and presentation)
- Fluent English
