Job Description
What you will learn and contribute to
Most recent breakthroughs driven by pioneering ML solutions have been feasible due to the continuous surge in computational capabilities of dedicated hardware platforms. Nevertheless, incorporating AI/ML solutions into networks entails a significant increase in computational resources to boost model accuracy, which can pose an environmental concern given the carbon footprint from energy consumption during the training and deployment of these models.
An interesting research trajectory involves assessing an ML model not only on its accuracy and optimization-related metrics but also its computational efficiency and energy consumption
Our objective is to explore and propose strategies for the development of ML models that necessitate minimal power during both their training and operational phases. Are you ready for the challenge?
How You Will Contribute And What You Will Learn
- Investigate new approaches to lower the energy consumption of such models.
- Formulate optimization problems and propose novel solutions to these problems.
- Validate the proposed ideas through simulations.
- Evaluate algorithm performance using real-life and simulated data.
- Contribute to authoring research papers and patents.
Key Skills And Experience
This is a unique opportunity to carry out cutting-edge research with one of the world's leading research institutes in wireless communications. The results of this work may lead to publications in flagship conferences and journals as well as the filing of patents.
Must have:
- Currently a student in the last year of a master's program or a PhD student in telecommunications, statistics, computer science, or any related field .
- Basic understanding of Computer Hardware or Computer Architecture.
- Excellent coding skills in a language such as Python or C++.
- Solid background and understanding of machine learning and/or deep learning.
- Practical experience building or tuning machine learning models using deep learning frameworks (PyTorch preferred).
- Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication skills for presenting methods, findings, and proposals.
- Familiarity with Software Engineering practices including version control, debugging, testing, and documentation, and associated tools such as Git.
- Solid foundation in Mathematics including linear algebra, calculus, probability, and statistics.
- Good background in wireless communications.
- Experience working with modern machine learning models and architectures such as Transformers and CNNs.
- Familiarity with existing and emerging neural network optimization techniques such as pruning, quantization, and knowledge distillation.
