Position

The Director / Site Head of EH&S holds overall strategic accountability for Environmental, Health & Safety performance, compliance, and risk management at the site.
The role operates at site leadership level and provides strategic direction, governance, and external representation, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, corporate standards, and site business objectives.

Responsibilities

  •  Define and drive the site EH&S strategy in alignment with corporate objectives and local regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure the robustness and sustainability of the site EH&S management system during ramp-up and steady-state operations.

  • Act as the primary EH&S interface with regulatory authorities, inspectors, and external stakeholders.

  • Ensure site readiness for inspections and audits; oversee regulatory commitments and follow-up actions.

  • Provide strategic leadership and prioritization on EH&S risks impacting operations, projects, and investments.

  • Oversee high-severity incidents and ensure systemic corrective and preventive actions.

  • Provide direction, coaching, and oversight to the EH&S Manager and team, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities.

  • Define EH&S resourcing strategy, including use of temporary or external support during peak workload periods.

  • Represent the site in corporate and global EH&S governance forums and decision-making bodies.

  • Actively contribute to site leadership decisions, integrating EH&S considerations into operational and strategic planning.

In accordance with French regulations, the Site Head remains the legal representative of the site and retains ultimate civil and penal responsibility for Environmental, Health & Safety matters.
Any delegation of authority does not transfer penal liability and is limited to operational execution within the defined scope.

Qualification

  • Master degree or equivalent in occupational safety, Environmental Science, or related field; alternatively, scientific degree followed by formal EHS training.

  • 15+ years related experience with advanced degree or certification in EH&S related field.

  • ~10 years of leadership management experience & expertise

  • Minimum of 5 years of EHS experience in pharmaceutical, biotech or life science industries.

  • Current knowledge of french EHS laws and regulations that impact the organization's operations.

  • Working experience in conducting incident investigations and interacting with regulatory agencies.

  • Experience in lab and commercial manufacturing settings.

  • Experience in lab safety, biosafety, emergency response, business continuity and ergonomics.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work with cross functional teams comprised of discovery, process development, quality, and manufacturing.

Le Directeur / Site Head EH&S détient la responsabilité stratégique globale de la performance Environnement, Hygiène & Sécurité du site, de la conformité et de la gestion des risques. Le rôle opère au niveau du comité de direction du site et assure l'orientation stratégique, la gouvernance et la représentation externe, en garantissant l'alignement avec les exigences réglementaires, les standards corporate et les objectifs opérationnels du site.

Responsabilités

• Définir et piloter la stratégie EH&S du site en cohérence avec les objectifs corporate et les exigences réglementaires locales.

• Garantir la robustesse et la pérennité du système de management EH&S du site durant la phase de montée en cadence et en régime établi.

• Assurer l'interface principale avec les autorités réglementaires, les inspecteurs et les parties prenantes externes.

• Assurer la préparation du site aux inspections et audits ; superviser les engagements réglementaires et les actions de suivi.

• Fournir un leadership stratégique et une priorisation des risques EH&S impactant les opérations, les projets et les investissements.

• Superviser les incidents de haute criticité et garantir la mise en œuvre d'actions correctives et préventives systémiques.

• Donner orientation, coaching et supervision au EH&S Manager et à l'équipe, avec une clarification continue des rôles et responsabilités.

• Définir la stratégie de ressources EH&S, incluant le recours à du support temporaire ou externe en période de forte charge.

• Représenter le site dans les instances de gouvernance EH&S corporate et globales.

• Contribuer activement aux décisions de direction du site, en intégrant les considérations EH&S dans la planification opérationnelle et stratégique.

Conformément à la réglementation française, le Site Head demeure le représentant légal du site et conserve la responsabilité civile et pénale ultime en matière d'Environnement, Hygine & Sécurité. Toute délégation d'autorité ne transfère pas la responsabilité pénale et se limite à l'exécution opérationnelle dans le périmètre défini.

Qualifications

• Master 2 ou équivalent en sécurité au travail, sciences de l'environnement ou domaine connexe ; alternativement, diplôme scientifique complété par une formation formelle en EH&S.

• Plus de 15 ans d'expérience pertinente, incluant un diplôme supérieur ou une certification dans le domaine EH&S.

• Compétences et expérience en leadership management d'environ 10 ans.

• Minimum 5 ans d'expérience EH&S dans l'industrie pharmaceutique, biotechnologique ou sciences de la vie.

• Connaissance actualisée de la réglementation française EH&S applicable aux activités du site.

• Expérience avérée en conduite d'investigations d'incidents et en interactions avec les autorités réglementaires.

• Expérience en environnement de laboratoire et de fabrication commerciale.

• Connaissance en sécurité laboratoire, biosécurité, réponse aux situations d'urgence, continuité d'activité et ergonomie.

• Excellentes compétences interpersonnelles et communicationnelles, avec la capacité démontrée à travailler avec des équipes transverses incluant R&D, développement procédé, qualité et manufacturing.
