Your tasks

As Legal Counsel, you will join a team of 15 dedicated lawyers who support the various business units within EEX Group on legal matters arising within an international group of companies operating multiple exchanges and clearing houses. In this role, your primary focus will be to maintain and further develop the set of rules & regulations under which the European Energy Exchange operates. You will provide legal advice, including contract negotiations, to our business units and the governing bodies of the exchange. You will support them in decision-making processes and ensure compliance with – inter alia – applicable German exchange and financial market laws. You will also manage correspondence with competent authorities at both national and international levels. 

Your responsibilities will include monitoring legal and regulatory developments at national and European levels – such as MiFID II/MiFIR, EMIR, MAR, REMIT, and DORA – and contributing to consultations and implementation projects. You will play an important role in strategic initiatives by providing legal assessments and risk analysis. Working languages will be English and German. This position offers the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in exchange and financial markets law at the crossroads with the energy industry, including topics such as trading, market infrastructure, and regulatory frameworks. You bring along

• Fully qualified lawyer in German law or comparable
• Fluent communication and presentation skills in German and English (written and spoken); other languages are welcome
• First experiences and interest in German exchange law and European financial markets law
• Willingness to deepen your knowledge in these and other fields of law
• Experience in drafting legal documents and negotiating contracts in English and German
• Interest in and commitment to professional development and participation in trainings
• Independent, open-minded, precise, and solution-oriented way of working within a team and across departments
