R&D Manager
to drive our technology roadmap and support our strategic growth.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The R&D Manager – Satellite Image Processing & Earth Observation will be responsible for leading the development of advanced image processing and polarimetry solutions within Satlantis France. This role involves managing ongoing and future R&D projects (EU funded projects, European Space Agency projects, regional R&D programs, etc.), ensuring their technical success while aligning with the company's long-term vision.
The R&D Manager plays a central role in the supervision and development of the existing team, which is primarily composed of junior engineers. This position requires an experienced and committed reference figure to guide, mentor, inspire and support the team's technical and professional growth.
The R&D Manager will contribute to the design and execution of cutting-edge projects including:
· Development of oceanic inversion models based on polarimetric satellite data
· Design of atmospheric inversion and correction models
· Research on texture signature modeling to enhance surface interpretation
· Implementation of algorithms for classification, segmentation, and object detection
· Integration of embedded artificial intelligence for real-time image classification
The selected candidate will work closely with the CEO to define the technological roadmap and contribute to the strategic direction of the company.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and expand the technical team, mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of innovation.
- Lead R&D activities related to image processing, polarimetry, and remote sensing applications.
- Manage and coordinate current and upcoming projects, ensuring technical excellence and timely execution.
- Develop and implement cutting-edge algorithms and methodologies to enhance Satlantis' imaging capabilities.
- Work closely with the CEO to define and refine the technological roadmap aligned with business objectives.
- Provide technical insights to support strategic decision-making and business development.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including research institutions and industry partners.
- Support project funding applications and manage collaborations with public and private research entities.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices in satellite imaging and data processing.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- MSc or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Image processing, or a related field.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in leading technical teams in satellite image processing, remote sensing or Earth observation.
- Hands-on experience with advanced algorithm development and implementation.
- Practical experience with Multispectral data and inversion modeling (oceanic or atmospheric).
- Familiarity with embedded AI techniques and onboard processing constraints
- Background in visual computing, deep learning, and machine learning applied to EO data is a plus.
- Ability to define and execute technological roadmaps in alignment with business objectives.
- Strong project management skills and experience working in cross-functional teams.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, leadership abilities, and communication.
- Fluency in English and French (Spanish is a plus).
- The candidate must obtain a defense clearance issued by the decision-making authority of the French Ministry of Armed Forces.
