Within an R&D laboratory dedicated to reducing the carbon footprint of the steel industry, you'll join a team focused on valorizing co-products generated by manufacturing processes (dusts, sludges, slags). The objective: turn these residues into valuable resources and actively contribute to the group's carbon-neutrality goal by 2050.

Their mission? Transform complex materials — such as sludges, dusts, and mill scales — into new resources while optimizing material flows and promoting environmental preservation.

To reinforce its team, our client is recruiting a
Research Engineer specializing in valorization of steelmaking by-products
to drive innovation projects related to recycling and process simulation within the "dust–sludge–scale" axis.

MISSIONS

Your daily mission will revolve around
applied research
,
experimentation
, and
innovation
for the valorization of metallurgical wastes. Specifically, you will:

• Identify technical challenges related to the recycling and re-use of emerging by-products from steelmaking processes.
• Evaluate and benchmark existing or emerging recycling technologies: technological maturity and industrial feasibility.
• Conduct laboratory and pilot-scale experimental work: leaching tests, equipment design, and pilot coordination.
• Develop and run process simulations: co-product recirculation, plant modeling, and validation of model–plant coherence.
• Participate in co-developing innovative solutions with R&D partners, industrial sites, and European project stakeholders.
• Contribute to the group's R&D strategy and transversal initiatives in safety, environment, and quality.

RESEARCHED PROFILE

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

You hold a Master's degree or PhD in process engineering, chemistry, metallurgy, or a related field, and possess
at least one professional experience (2 years minimum)
beyond internships. Fresh PhDs are welcome

TECHNICAL SPHERE

• Strong knowledge of hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, electrolysis, or metallic by-product treatment.
• Proficiency or familiarity with process modeling and simulation tools.
• Comfortable with laboratory work and experimental data analysis.
• Fluent in both English and French.

SOCIAL SPHERE

• Curious, autonomous, and scientifically rigorous.
• Able to argue ideas constructively and demonstrate critical thinking.
• A team player, comfortable collaborating with technicians, engineers, and industrial partners.
• Proactive and disciplined within a demanding R&D setting.
