About us

The Imagine Institute (IHU, 'Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire', INSERM U1163) is a recent research structure located within Necker Children's Hospital (Paris).

Its research labs are focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms of genetic diseases that affect the adaptive and innate immune systems, the skeletal dysplasia, the nervous system, stem cell differentiation, kidney physiology, metabolism, etc.

Mission

TEAM :

The "Laboratory of Mechanisms and Therapy of Genetic Brain Diseases", directed by Dr Michela Deleidi at the Imagine Institute in Paris (15) is looking for an engineer.

Our team is dedicated to dissecting the molecular mechanisms of genetic brain disorders. We focus on understanding the link between rare genetic diseases and complex age-related disorders. We use human pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) and long-term organoid culture models. Combined with single cell omics, these models help us identify the role of disease-related genetic variants. Our goal is to validate targets with significant diagnostic and therapeutic potential.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

The selected candidate will contribute to the Innov4ePiK RHU project focusing on pharmacoresistant epilepsies.

This ambitious project brings together 11 academic and industrial partners to develop innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for epileptic and developmental encephalopathies linked to potassium genes. The project is based on cellular models, specifically patient iPSCs differentiated into neurons, glial cells and brain organoids. Responsibilities include:

  • Maintenance of iPSCs ;
  • Implementation of neuronal differentiation protocols (2D and 3D) and initial characterization ;
  • Designing and conducting experiments in molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry ;
  • Implementing imaging techniques (for example, confocal microscopy and live imaging) and electrophysiological recordings (MEA, Multielectrode array) in collaboration with partner teams at the institute ;
  • Lab management responsibilities including purchasing laboratory reagents, monitoring consumable spending, negotiating with vendors for the purchase of lab equipment and bulk quantity items.

POSITION DETAILS :

  • The employment is planned to start immediately or upon agreement with the chosen candidate ;
  • Fixed term contract for 12 months, possibility of extension ;
  • Salary according to experience.
Profile

REQUIREMENTS :

  • Strong neuroscience and/or cell biology background ;
  • Proficiency with molecular and cell biology techniques ;
  • Prior experience with cell culture; familiarity with iPSC technology and differentiation is a plus ;
  • Preference will be given to candidates with additional strong background in molecular biology and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing ;
  • The ability to work independently, establish new techniques, interpret and discuss experiments is essential ;
  • Excellent organizational skills ;
  • Team-oriented and goal-driven mindset ;
  • Fluency in scientific English ;
  • Educational background: Masters or Engineering School.
