Role overview :

As a Launch Vehicle Fairing Ejection Kinematics Modeling Intern, you will focus on understanding and predicting the mechanics of fairing separation and ejection during critical transient phases of flight. Your work will ensure that the fairing release occurs without interference, maintaining mission success for HyPrSpace launchers.

You will develop simplified and finite element models to study the kinematics of rigid and flexible bodies, perform parameter dispersion analyses, and, when available, compare simulations with ground test results. This role offers hands-on experience in solid mechanics, kinematics, and aerospace modeling tools.

Your key responsibilities :

As part of your internship and in direct connection with your academic training, you will:

  • Identify and catalog the contributors having a first-order impact on the fairing release/ejection kinematics.

  • Build a simplified 2D rigid-body model to crosscheck current estimates.

  • Develop a simplified 3D rigid-body finite element model using SAMCEF.

  • Construct a 3D flexible-body finite element model under SAMCEF.

  • Perform parameter dispersion analyses to identify those that could lead to transient phase failure (blockage or overshoot of the allocated ejection zone).

  • Compare model results with ground test data when available.

  • Draft and complete the internship report.

This internship will allow you to develop your skills in rigid and flexible body kinematics, analytical modeling (Excel, Matlab), finite element kinematic modeling (SAMCEF), and understanding of aerospace flight environments.

Who we are looking for:

You are a 5th-year engineering student specializing in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Numerical Modeling, motivated to study critical transient flight phases and their kinematic behavior.

You bring:

  • Knowledge in rigid and flexible body kinematics.

  • Experience or interest in finite element modeling tools, preferably SAMCEF.

  • Skills in scientific programming (Matlab or Python) and analytical modeling (Excel).

  • Analytical rigor, attention to detail, and structured problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

  • Autonomy, proactivity, and alignment with the "test & learn" philosophy, iterating and validating models through simulation and testing loops.
