Company Overview Siemens Digital Industries Software is a leading provider of solutions for the design, simulation, and manufacture of products across many different industries. Formula 1 cars, skyscrapers, ships, space exploration vehicles, and many of the objects we see in our daily lives are being conceived and manufactured using our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software. Start your career with the Strategic Student Program (SSP) The Strategic Student Program is our formal internship program globally. You will be mentored by guides and gain invaluable professional experience. At Siemens, SSP interns get access to an international student network and community, career development opportunities with professional growth pathways, comprehensive practical training throughout the program, access to the Siemens Learning Hub and other training materials, and the opportunity to collaborate on exciting projects within a global, diverse team.  Topic: Optimization of Simcenter Amesim build systems and automated testing. Position Overview Simcenter Amesim is a flagship industrial software platform with over 30 years of history. Like many mature codebases, its build and test systems have grown complex, creating friction for daily development. This internship focuses on investigating, measuring, and optimizing our build and test pipelines to make them faster, more robust, more developer-friendly, and easier to scale. You will work to minimize friction and maximize developer velocity leveraging low-level programming concepts as well as modern toolchain and development practices. With around 50 full-time developers contributing to the platform, efficiency gains here can significantly improve overall productivity and reduce sources of frustration for developers. The specific exploration tracks can be tailored based on your background and interests. Exploration Tracks: Build System
• Build Profiling: Leverage standard profiling tooling (e.g. clang -ftime-trace, MSVC /d1reportTime) to pinpoint compilation bottlenecks.
• C++ Code Optimizations: Apply techniques such as PIMPL, forward declarations, splitting translation units, and reducing header coupling.
• CMake: Minimize unnecessary rebuilds, optimize parallelization via target dependencies, and explore jumbo/unity builds.
• Toolchain Tuning: Optimize compilers, ccache configurations, the Qt automoc process etc. Exploration Tracks: Test System
• Framework Analysis: Analyze in-house test framework features and capture requirements for local development vs. CI workflows (Jenkins).
• Industry Evaluation: Research established test frameworks (e.g., unittest, CTest) to assess whether adopting or integrating them makes sense.
• Test Categorization: Map existing test suites and identify components tightly coupled to legacy internal tooling.

Key Responsibilities
• Establish Baselines: Set up automated metrics to precisely measure current build/test performance and track optimization progress.
• Research & Propose: Identify and evaluate state-of-the-art tools and techniques relevant to our C++ stack.
• Evaluate & Prototype: Benchmark solutions, measure results, and discuss feasibility and return on investment with development teams.
• Implement & Scale: Implement optimizations, leveraging AI-assisted tooling where helpful to handle large-scale codebase changes safely.
• Communicate: Explain clearly and effectively the improvements done to other development teams. This 5 to 6-month internship is based in Villeurbanne, near Lyon (69), and starts from January 2027. Qualifications You are currently pursuing an engineering degree (Bac+4 or Bac+5 / Master’s) in France with a strong focus on software engineering:
• Technical Foundation: Solid understanding of low-level languages (C/C++), compilation, and linking processes.
• C++ Toolchain Familiarity: Experience with standard C++ tech stacks (GCC/MSVC, CMake, ccache, Conan).
• Optimization Mindset: Prior experience in software optimization (compile-time, runtime, memory, etc.).
• Scripting: Proficiency in Python for automation and metrics processing.
• Communication: Fluent in both French and English for effective cross-team collaboration.
• Autonomy & Collaboration: Ability to drive initiatives independently while working closely with mentors and development teams. Why Us At Siemens Software, flexibility is how we work—hybrid by default, built on trust and autonomy. Together, 30,000 people across more than 200 countries build technology that shapes the real world. You will grow through real projects, strong technical peers, and global mobility, backed by the scale and benefits of an industrial software leader. We're committed to equality and inclusion, and we hire based on merit, skills, and impact. Bring your curiosity and creativity and help us shape tomorrow Diversity & Inclusion We value equal opportunities and welcome applications from all talented individuals. At Siemens, we believe people who've had real experiences dealing with being different will excel as leaders. Let's foster a culture of creativity and innovation. We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, sex, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. Internship stipend This Strategic Student Program internship offers a gross monthly stipend of 1,200€ plus meal vouchers. Additional benefits include access to the Siemens Learning Hub, professional development opportunities, and mentorship from experienced professionals. Siemens Software.
