About the Company
Amazon has operated in France for more than twenty years, serving millions of customers every day through a network of sites rooted in local communities. The Chalon-sur-Saône fulfillment center was among the first Amazon facilities opened in France and remains an important location in the national network. Its established industrial infrastructure, proven equipment and opportunities for modernization make it a distinctive environment for technical professionals. The Reliability, Maintenance & Engineering (RME) team helps keep the systems that support customer deliveries safe, dependable and efficient.
About the Role
As an Automation Engineer, you will help maintain and improve the automated equipment at the Chalon-sur-Saône site. You will work across operational reliability, technical modernization and continuous improvement, supporting systems that keep products moving through the facility around the clock. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys investigating complex equipment issues, using performance information to identify opportunities, and turning technical findings into practical solutions. You will also share your knowledge with technicians and collaborate with RME colleagues across France and the wider international network. Qualifications You will have at least a two-year post-secondary qualification, such as a BTS, BUT or professional bachelor’s degree, or an engineering degree in automation, electrical engineering or industrial electronics. You should bring proven experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), troubleshooting and automation in a continuous-production environment, along with practical exposure to conveyors, sortation systems or industrial mechatronics. Familiarity with automated material handling, flow visualization and process control is required. Fluent French is essential, and professional English is needed to work with technical documentation and international teams. You should have hands-on expertise in at least one relevant technology, such as Ladder programming with Siemens TIA Portal or Step 7, Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 or Codesys; Ignition SCADA or a comparable HMI platform; industrial networks such as EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Profibus or AS-i; or variable-frequency drives, safety gateways and distributed I/O. Knowledge of functional safety standards ISO 13849 or IEC 62061 is an advantage. Experience on technically established or multi-site installations, project-management methods, Six Sigma, process analysis, industrial computing or robotics will also be valued. Responsibilities Promote rigorous health and safety practices across automated systems. Identify risks proactively, support the goal of zero incidents and ensure that safety considerations inform technical decisions. Supervise, diagnose and optimize critical equipment, including conveyors, sortation systems and industrial networks, to improve availability and maintain smooth operations. Analyze equipment and performance data, identify reliability improvements, and implement solutions that support the site’s ongoing technical evolution. Program and troubleshoot PLC-controlled systems in line with IEC 61131-3 practices, interpret technical diagrams and maintain accurate, current documentation. Take ownership of equipment issues, investigate root causes and follow through on effective improvements. Work closely with local and international RME teams, communicate technical findings clearly, and share expertise with technicians. Help colleagues strengthen their troubleshooting and preventive-maintenance capabilities so that equipment remains in effective operating condition. Benefits You will join a collaborative team of technical specialists supporting a major logistics operation. The role offers opportunities to apply your expertise to real equipment and operational challenges, contribute to modernization projects, and develop your skills alongside colleagues across a broad engineering network.
