Job Description
UNIVITY is looking for a Senior Telecommunications Systems Engineer to join the team in our Toulouse office. As Senior Telecommunications Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for dimensioning, defining and validating the advanced communications system. This role reports directly to the CTO. Your

Key Responsibilities
And Tasks
• System architecture
• Define and evolve the end-to-end architecture: user segment, space segment (on-board gNB, CU/DU partitioning), ground segment (gateways, TT&C), 5G core, and operator interconnection (roaming, RAN sharing).
• Make key strategic decisions: allocation of on-board/ground functions, frequency plan, coverage and handover strategy in very low Earth orbit.
• Take into account the capabilities and limitations of the various subsystems to be implemented.
• Prepare for and defend system reviews.
• Specify and monitor interfaces (ICD): Uu NR-NTN, NG (N2/N3), F1, feeder links, inter-satellite links, monitoring, and orchestration.
• Manage NTN-specific effects: Doppler shift, propagation delay, timing advance, mobility due to satellite movement, and feeder link handover.
• Performance and Budgets
• Determining the number of satellites to be launched into orbit, as well as the number of access stations to be deployed.
• Establishing and maintaining end-to-end budgets: link budgets, throughput, capacity, latency, availability, synchronization, and QoS.
• Developing system simulation models that support these budgets.
• Evaluate service performance and capabilities based on the deployment strategies being analysed, particularly in the scenarios defined in collaboration with partner operators
• Take into account deployment and operational costs to validate compatibility with the business plan
• 3GPP Standards
• Monitor compliance with Releases 17 through 19 (NR-NTN) and prepare for Release 20 and 6G.
• Contribute to the standardization strategy (3GPP RAN and SA, ETSI) in collaboration with partners.
• Support for verification and validation activities
• Support for defining the end-to-end integration and validation strategy: test benches with satellite channel emulators, interoperability with commercial terminals and 5G cores, and in-orbit demonstration campaigns.
• Support for end-to-end anomaly analysis and coordinating their resolution across teams. Requirements Skills and experience
• Education and Experience
• Engineering degree or master’s degree in telecommunications, electronics, or space systems; a Ph.
D. is a plus.
• At least 10 years of experience in telecommunications systems engineering, including significant experience in the design of satellite telecommunications systems
• Essential Skills
• Systems engineering methods: requirements, interfaces, budgets, milestone reviews adapted to new space environment
• Knowledge on state-of-the-art satcom technologies
• Link budgets and propagation models.
• Simulation and analysis using Python or MATLAB.
• Fluency in business English, both written and spoken.
• Qualifications That Will Make a Difference
• Experience with a mobile operator, a 5G equipment manufacturer, or a space industry company.
• MBSE system modelling (Capella, SysML) and orbital analysis tools.
• Participation in 3GPP working groups (RAN1, RAN2, RAN3, or SA2).
• Knowledge of spectrum regulations (ITU, ANFR, CEPT).
• 5G NR and 5GC architecture: NG-RAN, gNB CU/DU, AMF/SMF/UPF, RRC, NAS, PDCP, RLC, and MAC protocol stacks.
• Experience with a 5G software stack (Open Air Interface, srsRAN, Amarisoft) or an open source 5G core.
• NTN-specific features: Doppler, delay, timing advance, HARQ, ephemeris broadcast to terminals, satellite mobility.
• Interest in the New Space startup ecosystem.
