- independent contractor) Summary Under the direction of the recreation manager, the ceramics instructor is responsible for supervision of class attendees and organizing creative activities for individuals of all ages. The ceramics instructor will research, develop and propose classes to be included seasonal curriculum. The ceramics instructor is responsible for the cleanliness of the studio and advises recreation department on materials needed for classes. EDUCATION
• Minimum of two-years of similar work experience
• High school education or any equivalent combination and experience; college preferred Essential Functions And Basic Duties
• Responsible for keeping work areas neat, attend to proper storage of ceramic/art supplies, mix glazes and recycle clay
• Instruct students in proper and safe techniques of ceramics/pottery
• Independently load and unload bisque kilns
• Finishing and firing of children/adult clay projects for classes and events
• Troubleshoot equipment problems if necessary
• Assist in supply orders
• Monitor studio to ensure the safety of participants
• Acts as a positive spokesperson, promoting current programs and events PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
• Ability to maintain cleanliness, organization of studio tools and inventory of materials
• Ability to maintain safety and other relevant policies in studio
• Ensure that firings are completed in a timely fashion
• Timely upkeep of glaze mixing and recycling of clay Required Experience/Knowledge
• Knowledge of all ceramics equipment and processes
• Knowledge of basic glaze making preferred
• Knowledge of firing electric kilns preferred Skills / Abilities
• Computer proficiency including email, Microsoft Word & Excel
• Strong communication skills (written & verbal)
• Organized, detail and process oriented
• Strong Customer Service
• Must be comfortable working with varied age groups and skill levels and abilities
• Artistic, creative, inspirational Physical Activities And Requirements Of This Position
• Must keep studio in neat, working order at all times
• Sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time
• May involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects (20-60 pounds)
• Move light tables and chairs Other Requirements
• Set up as township independent contractor through purchase order
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Background check
• Valid driver’s license
• May involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects (20-60 pounds)
• May involve week and/or weekend hours each season, depending upon class scheduling SALARY/WAGES
