Eramet is looking for its next Group Insurance Manager, reporting directly to an Executive Committee member who is also responsible for the Legal and Permitting functions.
This role is both operational and strategic: the Group Insurance Manager oversees the Group's entire insurance coverage strategy (annual premiums totaling several tens of millions of euros), working closely with the risk management function.
Against a backdrop of transformation, the central challenge is to evolve the Group's insurance approach into a tool for risk prevention and mitigation, aligned with the Group risk map. The position is at the heart of the interface between risk teams, operations and market partners (insurers, reinsurers and brokers).
Across four continents, the scope covers a wide range of heavy industrial assets (open-pit mines, metallurgical plants, rail infrastructure, chemical sites, bulk carriers, geotechnical structures, etc.) in high-risk geographies, notably Gabon, Senegal, Indonesia, Argentina and New Caledonia. This role will allow you to make the most of your curiosity and your appetite for diverse situations and environments.
In addition, the Group Insurance Manager will contribute to managing the Group's reinsurance captive.
Responsibilities
1. Insurance strategy & risk management
Define and develop the insurance coverage strategy in line with the Group's risk map and risk mitigation priorities.
Identify uninsured or inadequately insured risks and propose appropriate solutions (new policies, adjustments, retention through the captive).
Lead the annual renewal programme, incorporating input from the risk teams, operations and insurer surveys.
Manage and optimise the reinsurance captive (retention, parametric insurance, reserves), and serve as its administrator.
Make an active contribution to the Enterprise Risk Management framework by bringing the risk transfer perspective.
2. Insurance programme management
Oversee all lines of coverage: property damage/business interruption (PD/BI), general liability, environmental liability, marine and cargo, cyber, construction, medical, projects, etc.
Lead negotiations with insurers and reinsurers, highlighting the Group's prevention initiatives, in close collaboration with brokers.
Ensure the regulatory compliance of the programmes in each of the Group's locations (Gabon, Senegal, Argentina, Norway, etc.).
3. Significant claims management
Manage claims from notification to closure: file preparation, liaison with experts, negotiation and cash collection.
Ensure effective indemnity collection across all geographies, including the most complex markets.
Analyse claims (Eramet and peer companies) to draw lessons regarding coverage and prevention.
4. Stakeholder engagement & external relations
Manage relationships with insurers, brokers, experts and local correspondents with a view to building lasting partnerships.
Support the development of the skills of local teams and insurance/risk correspondents on insurance-related matters.
Contribute to ESG/CSRD/DEU reporting on risk and insurance matters.
Manage the project officer responsible for operational and budgetary matters.
Profile
Education & experience
Master’s degree in law, finance, engineering, business or a specialised insurance school.
At least 10 years' experience in insurance, gained in an international industrial company and/or in broking, with significant experience of a heavy industry portfolio.
Cross-functional experience across several lines of coverage: property damage, liability, construction, marine and cargo, cyber, etc.
Knowledge of the French market is an advantage. Exposure to the London market or the relevant industry sector market is an advantage.
Skills & personal qualities
Ability to think in terms of risk mitigation, beyond policy management alone: understand the underlying risk in order to size the coverage appropriately.
Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build lasting relationships of trust with insurers and brokers.
Performance-driven approach: leading claims collection, monitoring prevention plans and optimising market terms.
Comfortable engaging in dialogue with on-site operational teams and decision-makers.
Strong analytical and writing skills, autonomy and a questioning mindset.
Fluency in both English and French is essential.
