Senior Drafter

$85,000 – $95,000 per year, DOE CDG Maui is a design-build construction company on Maui. We build high-end custom homes and renovations, plus some commercial work. We plan carefully, build it right, and own the outcome. Our in-house design team works side by side with our project managers and field team. You’ll produce the drawings and coordinate the plan set on every project, working under the technical direction of our licensed architect, so that every job is built right the first time. You’ll also support our design-only client projects. You’ll report to Ryan Clow, Senior PM / Team Lead, who sets your priorities and schedule. You’ll work closely with our in-house architect, Development Project Manager, Project Managers, Superintendents and outside engineers. The architect owns the coordinated plan set and directs the technical content of your drawings, and makes the code and design decisions on sealed drawings. When requests compete for your time, the Senior PM decides the order, and also approves fees, client commitments, and anything that affects cost or schedule. This role does not require a license and does not stamp drawings. This is beautiful, high-end custom work on a team that plans before it builds, with a clear role, clear metrics, quarterly coaching reviews and room to grow.
• Produce plans and construction drawings for in-house projects under the architect’s direction, from schematic design through the permit set, and prepare sets for review and sealing by the architect or engineer of record
• Combine the foundation, steel, framing, truss and MEP shop drawings into the coordinated plan set on every job. Run 3D clash detection and bring conflicts to the architect and subcontractors so they’re resolved before work goes to the field. Foundation and steel are coordinated before the pour; the full set before framing.
• Coordinate drawing exchanges with structural, civil, landscape and MEP engineers, and check their drawings against ours for accuracy and consistency
• Give input on feasibility, setbacks and site constraints during due diligence
• Prepare drawings that meet Maui County and applicable building codes
• Prepare permit submittals, track active permits in MAPPS, and revise drawings to answer county and HOA comments
• Draft as-builts from the Superintendent’s field redlines, and draft responses to design RFIs during construction for the architect’s review
• Support design-only client projects with drawings and with scope and fee input. All proposals are approved by the Senior PM before they go to the client.
• Keep the Weekly Project Tracker current and deliver drawings by the dates in the project schedule
• 5+ years of architectural drafting or design experience producing construction drawings for residential projects
• Strong Revit skills, including 3D clash detection; AutoCAD a plus
• Working knowledge of Maui County codes and the IBC/IRC
• Experience working with structural, civil, landscape and MEP engineers
• You meet deadlines and work well within a defined team structure and approval process Preferred Qualifications
• Architecture or drafting degree, or working toward architectural licensure
• Design-build or general contractor experience
• Permit submittal experience with Maui County, including MAPPS
