About The Role
About Terramira Terramira is a new player in Earth Intelligence, formed by combining the expertise of NEO (the oldest private Earth observation company in the Netherlands, active for 30 years), eLEAF, and 52impact. We currently have around 100 colleagues. We translate satellite and sensor data into clear insights that help organizations make better decisions. We support a wide range of challenges in climate, water, agriculture, infrastructure, and nature — as well as safety and security, both domestically and internationally. Within our Safety & Security division, we develop solutions that give organizations real-time insight into what’s happening on and around the Earth — enabling preparedness and recovery. Think, for example, of terrain and infrastructure analysis for defense or support during emergencies. Our strength lies in combining geospatial data, remote sensing, AI, and domain expertise. We build technology and intelligence that isn’t just theoretically interesting — it’s actively used to support decision-making. We’re a growing organization with short communication lines, an open culture, and ample room for initiative. You’ll collaborate with colleagues from diverse expertise areas and have the opportunity to directly contribute to impactful solutions.
About the Role
As a Senior Developer/Architect in Safety & Security, you define how our technology for safety and recovery challenges is structured. You design the systems that convert large volumes of satellite, radar, and drone data into timely, reliable information that multiple countries and organizations can trust. You look beyond the current project — a key principle at Terramira is Build once, Scale forever: whatever we develop for Safety & Security must be reusable for other customers and applications. You ensure the solutions built by the team fit into both the Safety & Security and broader Terramira architecture, grounded in the right principles and patterns. What You’ll Do You’ll zoom out and in: you oversee the big picture of our Safety & Security platform — and its integration into Terramira — while diving deep where needed. You translate diverse customer questions — from terrain accessibility to infrastructure analysis — into a coherent, scalable, and reusable architecture. You work closely with developers, geospatial engineers, data scientists, and domain experts, guiding them without limiting their creative freedom. Concretely, this includes: Designing the system and data platform according to appropriate architecture principles and patterns; Making and justifying technical choices, clearly communicating trade-offs between scope, quality, time, and cost; Designing and implementing workflows and data pipelines using tools like Dagster and Ray, ensuring scalable and reproducible processing of large geospatial datasets; Defining how data is stored and accessed (e.g., using Parquet); Proactively identifying technical risks and proposing mitigation strategies; Establishing and enforcing standards, guidelines, and reference architectures to align teams; Coaching colleagues and participating in code and design reviews; As Lead Developer, setting the example by taking the lead in system/platform development. What We’re Looking For We’re looking for someone energized by designing and building systems that remain resilient as scale, customer needs, or data sources evolve. You have a solid background in software or data engineering and have grown into a role where you primarily shape direction within a team of 5–8 people. You can distill complex problems into clear design decisions and explain them to both technical and non-technical audiences. You likely recognize yourself in the following: Extensive experience in software development and system design, including several years in an architecture or lead engineer role; Strong Python skills; Practical experience with workflow orchestration — preferably with Dagster; Hands-on experience with parallel processing of large datasets — preferably using Ray; Experience with Parquet and designing efficient data storage solutions; Knowledge of architecture principles and patterns, and the ability to apply them to scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems; The ability to zoom out, see the big picture, and make decisions that will still hold up years from now; Strong communication skills and the ability to involve stakeholders, teams, and partners in your design process; Proficiency in both Dutch and English. Nice-to-Haves (Not Required) Familiarity with geospatial data, GIS, and Earth Observation (satellite, radar, drone data); Experience with PostGIS / PostgreSQL and OGC standards; Experience with cloud environments (e.g., AWS), Docker, and CI/CD; Experience with sovereign, independent environments; Knowledge of security and data governance in defense or government contexts.
What We Offer
At Terramira, you’ll have room to grow personally and professionally — while helping shape an organization in full motion. You’ll work on intellectually compelling challenges, using modern geospatial, cloud, and AI technologies, alongside colleagues with diverse expertise. You’ll enjoy significant freedom in organizing your work, and ample opportunity to experiment with new ideas. In addition, you can expect: A contract for 32 to 40 hours per week; Flexible
working hours
and the option to work hybrid, averaging two days per week from our office in Amersfoort, with the option to work one day in Eindhoven; Offices next to the train station and within walking distance of the city center; An informal culture with short lines of communication; 25 vacation days, with the option to purchase an extra week; A salary aligned with your experience and background; Ample opportunities for personal and professional development; The chance to work with cutting-edge technology and complex geospatial challenges. In short: a place where you don’t just work on interesting projects — you truly influence what our organization and team deliver. Ready to Make an Impact? Do you want to build the architecture that future safety, preparedness, and recovery efforts can rely on? And does it excite you to design technology that turns data into real-world intelligence?
