The Electronics, Detectors and Computing Division (DEDIP) of the Institute for Research on the Fundamental Laws of the Universe (IRFU) at CEA Paris-Saclay (France) is inviting applications for the recruitment of a permanent researcher in detector physics. IRFU is a highly dynamic scientific environment including research divisions on astrophysics, nuclear and particle physics as well as strong technical and engineering divisions in instrumentation, cryogenics and accelerator technologies.

The primary mission of the DEDIP is to innovate and construct cutting-edge detection instruments crucial for advancing the field of physics. This involves both positioning on large projects, such as NECTARCAM for CTA with the development of chips capturing and recording ultra-fast detector signals or the development of CMOS detectors for the LHC collider, Caliste cameras for the Solar Orbiter satellite but also software development on board the SVOM satellite. This state-of-the-art instrumentation is not possible without strong R&D involvement, particularly in the fields of gaseous detectors and microelectronics, the fields of excellence of DEDIP.

We are looking for outstanding and motivated experimental physicists with an excellent scientific background to strengthen our efforts on the detector conception and simulation. The successful candidate will play a key role in conducting feasibility studies and pre-design simulations on experiments spanning astrophysics, particle and nuclear physics using a range of technologies including gaseous, semiconductors and bolometric detectors. Current applications include projects such as the developments of the Micromegas tiles for the Electron Ion Collider, the P2 experiment at the MESA facility at Mainz and simulations for the radiopurity program of the Bingo experiment.

The selected candidate will collaborate closely with the Physics Departments and contribute to the supervision of internship and PhD students. In addition, a significant involvement in hardware development and technical team management is anticipated. The candidate will integrate and work closely with teams of physicists, engineers and technicians.

A PhD or equivalent in experimental nuclear or particle physics with preferably at least two years of postdoctoral experience is required. Strong experience in GEANT4 simulation coupled with expertise in various detection technologies is mandatory. Proven capacity to work simultaneously in different projects will be highly valued. Additionally the candidate should not only have strong technical skills but also excel in team work.
