Job Description

Recognizing the importance of the markets as being the key building block of the new organization, the Knowledge Community leverages the Agile framework concept (as per the chart below) in order to embed R&D resources within markets and:
  • Manage large open and cross-market communities to create and spread Knowledge more effectively both within the division and externally,
  • Invest in our biometric risk modelling, medical and behavioural science capability,
  • Foster team works and ownership of the outcome


Responsibilities

The Head of Biometric Modelling & Inclusive Underwriting leads the following chapters:
  • Biometric Risk Modelling: it is at the heart of actuarial and risk modeling. It is the key expertise needed by a reinsurer like SCOR. Applying, developing and transferring state of the art technique for deriving our Best Estimates locally for all the biometric risks we assume (mortality, longevity, morbidity risks - Disability, critical illness, long term care, medical expenses) is the major task of this chapter. Calibration of Internal model biometric risk factors is also part of this chapter activity.


  • Behavioral Science: it includes the application of Behavioral Economics to improve our understanding of customers for underwriting, product design, prevention, persistency, option utilisations, claims management and distribution and to apply behavioral science insights to manage our internal control and risk management procedures. Policyholder behavior expertise will be provided to assist the markets in assumption setting for lapse and related persistency risks. Calibration of Internal model lapse risk factors is also part of this chapter activity.


  • Medical: it is essential to understand and define biometric risks and as such is crucial for underwriting or claims assessment.

The Head of Biometric Modelling & Inclusive Underwriting also leads the following Tribe :
  • Inclusive Underwriting: deriving the main underwriting rules for individual cases with a mindset to find solutions ie pushing the boundaries of insurability. The tribe is also managing the Underwriting tool and algorithms (SOLEM, Vitae,...).

Significant travel worldwide is expected for coordination of chapters and tribes and active management of the delocalized teams.

Qualifications

Required experience & competencies

  • 15y+ experience as a senior manager in actuarial and/or R&D fields of insurance and/or public health
  • Having led a sizeable R&D team in the field of insurance and/or public health
  • Working in an international environment
  • Solid direct and functional managerial experience, with onsite and remote teams
  • Having led sizeable, international and complex projects linking IT/Operations with business topics

  • Master to PhD level in Sciences, Actuarial sciences

Languages
  • Full proficiency in English (written and spoken)
