Key Account Manager - Electro-Optical Systems (Europe)

Location: France - head office near Grenoble; remote considered for the right profile (see below)

Contract: Permanent

Package: Competitive fixed salary + performance bonus

Sector: High-tech components for electro-optical systems

The company: Our client is a European technology company, and a recognised leader in its niche. It designs and manufactures high-performance components that its customers build into their own electro-optical systems. Those systems are used in demanding professional settings, including defence, industrial and medical applications, where performance, reliability and size all matter.

The company exports worldwide and works closely with system integrators across Europe. To support their growth, they are now looking for a Key Account Manager to take ownership of a portfolio of strategic European accounts.

The role: This is technical, value-led account management. Customers don't order from a catalogue: they design the product into their systems over long programmes. They need a counterpart who understands what they are building and can show how the product adds value to their end customers.

You will:

  • Own and develop a portfolio of key accounts across Europe, currently weighted towards defence and professional systems integrators.
  • Be the main link between customers and the internal product, engineering and operations teams.
  • Manage long design-in cycles, from early specification through qualification to series production.
  • Sell on technical and business value, not on product references and price lists.

What we are looking for:

  • Experience selling technical products that are integrated into larger systems, ideally in optics, electro-optics, imaging, sensors, cameras or optical instruments such as microscopy systems.
  • Enough understanding of electronics, optics and mechanics to talk credibly about a customer's system, not just the component. You don't need to be a deep specialist; broad, practical technical knowledge counts for more here.
  • A solid track record managing long sales cycles and multi-year customer relationships.
  • Experience with defence or aerospace customers is a strong plus but not essential. Because the current portfolio is weighted towards defence, you must be comfortable working with defence customers.
  • An engineering or technical background, or a strong technical understanding gained through your career.
  • Fluent French and professional English. Other European languages are a plus.
  • French or EU nationality (required because of the customer base).
