Responsibilities

  • Design and bring up the battery pack electronics: high-current board design, instrumentation, interconnects, wiring, and battery-side protections.
  • Define the BMS architecture and design its hardware: monitoring, balancing and protection circuits, and interfaces with the power converter.
  • Develop the BMS software functions: state estimation (SoC/SoH), balancing and protection logic, and battery charging strategies (CC/CV profiles, current/voltage limits over temperature and state of charge).
  • Define and run test campaigns for cells, packs, and the BMS subsystem: cell screening and characterization, cycling and aging in the in-house cell testing laboratory, and functional validation of the BMS (protections, balancing, state estimation) on the battery board.
  • Select and qualify cells and battery components for the LEO environment including battery cells supplier selection: qualification testing (thermal‑vacuum, radiation), derating analysis, and incoming inspection.

Qualifications

  • Professional engineering education (MSc or equivalent) in electrical engineering / electronics, with 5+ years of hands‑on experience in battery systems or power electronics.
  • Solid understanding of Li‑ion cell behavior from an electrical standpoint: electrical characteristics, aging mechanisms, safety, and their implications for pack design.
  • Experience with BMS architectures: cell monitoring, balancing, and protection circuits.
  • Strong electronics design skills: high-current PCB design (heavy copper, busbars, creepage/clearance), sensing chains, protections.
  • Hands‑on cell and battery testing experience: cyclers, thermal chambers, test protocol definition.
  • Autonomy in the lab: oscilloscopes, differential/isolated probes, power analyzers, electronic loads.
  • Strong analytical skills, a proactive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and unbounded curiosity.
  • You enjoy owning your scope end‑to‑end.
  • Professional level English — further languages welcome.

Nice to have

  • Experience in space, automotive, aerospace, or other high‑reliability industries.
  • Programming skills for BMS function implementation (embedded C or similar): state estimation, protection logic, charging strategies.
  • Familiarity with electrochemical characterization methods: ACIR/DCIR, EIS, RPT-based protocols.
  • Familiarity with power conversion and battery charging strategies (CC/CV profiles).

Company

Gama is a NewSpace startup based in Ivry-sur‑Seine, near Paris. We are developing a next‑generation power system for commercial LEO satellites — from solar array power conversion to battery energy storage. We design, build, and test our hardware in‑house, and we move fast: our engineers see their designs go from schematic to flight hardware.

We are a small team where ownership matters: you own your subsystem end‑to‑end, from first calculations to test results. We work hands‑on, we help each other without ego, and we treat mistakes as data — finding out why something failed is how we get better.

Benefits

  • Your work will fly. Contribute directly to the future of space exploration and Sustainable Space.
  • Access to cutting‑edge facilities and development opportunities in the heart of the European space industry.
  • A steep personal development path, working alongside world class aerospace engineers.
  • Equity package and competitive compensation.
  • A highly talented, dynamic and international team.
