**Description**:

- The quantum population dynamics among discrete coupled quantum levels is formally analogous to various systems in classical optics, such as coupled optical waveguides, frequency conversion in nonlinear optics, or the transformation of the polarization state of light.- Our previous works have shown that theses analogies can lead to various broadband and robust photonics systems, with high tolerance to system parameter variations. During this PhD thesis, we will continue these activities by focusing on the analogies with non-reciprocal systems (broken time reversal symmetry) or non-Hermitian systems (open systems with dissipations and/or gain).-
- These studies will include theoretical and numerical modelling, followed by experimental demonstrations for some of the studied systems.- The PhD Studentship is funded by the Université de Lorraine and will be conducted at the LMOPS laboratory in Metz (France). - Unviersité de LorraineLe Laboratoire Matériaux optiques, photonique et systèmes (LMOPS) regroupe les équipes de recherche de l’Université de Lorraine et de CentraleSupélec, sur les sites de Metz, Saint-Avold et Thionville. Il regroupe près de 30 enseignants-chercheurs et une quinzaine de doctorants, répartis dans plusieurs équipes selon 3 axes de recherche. Il a été créé en 2000 à partir du Laboratoire Matériaux optiques à propriétés spécifiques, laboratoire de l’Université de Metz, lors de l’association de sa deuxième tutelle de l’époque, Supélec. Il héberge la Chaire Photonique, unique en son genre et créée en 2017, au sein de son équipe éponyme.

Les activités de recherche au sein du LMOPS sont structurées par l’intermédiaire de 3 axes de recherche:
L’axe Matériaux, dont les thèmes de recherche traitent de la fabrication de matériaux fonctionnels, notamment pour l’optique et l’optoélectronique, et des polymères nano-composites et leur comportement au feu

L’axe Photonique, dont la recherche est dédiée à l’optique en général, à l’optique non linéaire en particulier et à la spectroscopie vibrationnelle et qui héberge à ce titre la Chaire Photonique. Les travaux de cette thèse font partie de cette axe de recherche.

L’axe Matériaux, Composants et Systèmes Photovoltaïques (MCS-PV), dont l’objet est l’étude et l’optimisation des dispositifs et systèmes pour la production de l’énergie photovoltaïque
