Position Overview
ROLE: The Global Category Manager is responsible for the procurement strategy across all trackworks categories (including rails, sleepers, and turnouts) to ensure that project specifications and financial objectives are achieved.
OBJECTIVES: Facilitate projects with a comprehensive global procurement strategy grounded in risk management principles.
Oversee suppliers from a strategic perspective, including negotiations and contractual agreements.
Coordinate the global purchasing community in alignment with the overarching strategy.
Act as the primary contact for key strategic suppliers.
MISSION: Cultivate competitive supplier panels that adhere to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental standards.
Generate value for projects through a global risk management lens.
Enhance profitability from a strategic viewpoint.
SCOPE: Colas Rail and its subsidiaries.
Key Responsibilities
SUPPLIER MANAGEMENT: Establish a supplier panel in line with the strategic vision.
Explore the market for emerging suppliers.
Facilitate business reviews with key suppliers.
Oversee the audit and qualification process for the supplier panel.
Encourage innovation, low-carbon initiatives, CSR, and research and development.
Engage with suppliers through meetings and visits.
DATA MANAGEMENT: Collaborate closely with purchasing data analysts to enhance data integrity and reporting.
Aggregate and assess data to formulate strategies for each category.
Monitor activities to ensure strategies are effective, adhered to, and objectives are met.
PROJECT SUPPORT: Assist project buyers globally in tenders and project implementations through supplier selection.
Serve as the escalation point for supplier-related issues as needed.
Support negotiations for strategic orders.
Manage project claims as part of supplier oversight.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: Advocate for standardization and a risk management approach.
Enhance processes, key performance indicators (KPIs), and reporting mechanisms.
Candidate Profile
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: Master's degree with a scientific focus.
Minimum of 5 years' experience in a purchasing role, such as category buyer.
Strong communication abilities.
Proven negotiation expertise.
Experience in contract negotiations.
