Position Overview
BACKGROUND
The proliferation of computerized and interconnected objects and systems is transforming various sectors. For instance, in transportation, trains utilize standardized IT platforms and connect externally to relay information for maintenance, video feeds from cameras, passenger updates, and even advertisements. This trend extends to automobiles, aircraft, and consumer products such as televisions, refrigerators, audio devices, and smart locks. However, this interconnectivity and digitization render these products increasingly susceptible to cyber threats.
Within organizations that manufacture these products, a novel role is emerging: the Product Security Manager (PSM) or Product Security Officer (PSO). This key figure must integrate cybersecurity considerations into both the development and ongoing security maintenance of these products.
INTERNSHIP GOAL
The aim of this internship is to provide a comprehensive overview of the responsibilities of a PSM or PSO across various sectors to be determined (e.g., aerospace, rail, maritime, consumer goods, healthcare). This overview will take into account the unique constraints and requirements of each sector, along with the existing security opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the guidance of [Supervisor] and the oversight of [Manager], the intern may be tasked with some or all of the following responsibilities:
- Conduct a benchmark analysis of regulatory requirements by industry for a PSM.
- Prepare a presentation detailing the functions of a PSM.
- Create a maturity assessment tool tailored for PSMs.
- Evaluate significant risks associated with a specific product.
The precise title of the internship project or the work to be undertaken will be finalized at the commencement of the internship.
