Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our team at INRIA and contribute to the development of numerical methods for wave propagation in unbounded hyperbolic media. The successful candidate will have a strong background in numerical analysis and a keen interest in modeling complex physical phenomena.

Research Context

Hyperbolic metamaterials are artificially engineered anisotropic materials that exhibit unique properties, such as negative refraction and backward wave propagation. These materials have potential applications in various fields, including sensors, antennas, and imaging technologies. However, the mathematical modeling of these materials is still in its infancy, and there is a need for robust numerical methods to simulate their behavior.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement numerical methods for wave propagation in unbounded hyperbolic media
  • Conduct numerical simulations to study the behavior of hyperbolic metamaterials
  • Collaborate with the research team to design and implement new numerical methods
  • Present research results at international conferences and publish papers in top-tier journals

Requirements

  • Master's degree in numerical analysis, applied mathematics, or a related field
  • Strong background in numerical methods for partial differential equations
  • Excellent programming skills in MATLAB or C++
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
