Lead Legal Advisor – Insurance Sector
Paris, France
Context Overview:
In this role, you will be an integral part of a legal team that supports the operations of XL Catlin in a variety of legal matters, both domestically and internationally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary contact and collaborate closely with multiple underwriting divisions;
- Offer underwriters, middle office personnel, and risk advisors solutions that adhere to relevant laws while meeting the needs of XL Catlin's clients and partners;
- Independently oversee various projects and timelines;
- Assist XL Catlin teams with intricate legal challenges;
- Provide support to XL Catlin's international cross-functional teams (Governance of Underwriting Delegation; Governance of Claims Delegation, etc.);
- Review and approve various technical contractual documents (non-disclosure agreements, mandates, co-reinsurance contracts, brokerage agreements, commercial contracts, etc.);
- Support the local efforts of the APAC Europe / Global Legal team.
- Act as a subject matter expert and mentor junior team members;
- Assist the Senior Legal Advisor for France with various complex projects and inquiries;
- Aid the Senior Legal Advisor for France on regulatory matters related to supervisory requirements from relevant authorities;
- Monitor legal and regulatory changes, focusing on insurance and distribution regulations, contract law, financial crime regulations, and other pertinent areas;
- Participate in training sessions for underwriters, underwriting assistants, claims handlers, and related personnel;
- Oversee legal activities conducted by external legal advisors;
Reporting Structure
You will report directly to the Senior Legal Advisor for France.
SHARE your expertise
We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
- 8 - 10 years of experience as a legal professional, either in-house or in private practice;
- Master’s degree in Private Law, with a preference for insurance law;
- Expertise in insurance law (including global program knowledge) and related litigation;
- Native French speaker with proficiency in English, both written and spoken; additional regional languages are a plus;
- Strong organizational skills and adaptability to a fast-paced work environment;
- Proactive mindset, ability to work autonomously, and collaborative spirit within a diverse team;
- Quick comprehension skills, along with analytical, conceptual, and creative thinking abilities;
- Intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and teaching aptitude;
- Open-mindedness and team-oriented attitude;
- Excellent analytical and synthesis capabilities.
