SuperGrid Institute is seeking a highly skilled Research Engineer to join our team in the development of innovative high and medium voltage direct current (HVDC and MVDC) power systems. As a key member of our C&P prototyping and HIL validation group, you will be responsible for participating in the technical improvement and operational activities of our hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test platform.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, with experience in modelling and simulation of electrical systems, particularly in the field of HVDC. You will be working on the development and validation of DC Grid controls, as well as coordinating internal and external activities to implement HIL setups. Additionally, you will be interacting with customers from the pre-sale phase to delivery.
Main Responsibilities
- Participate in the technical improvement of the real-time simulation laboratory, focusing on rapid prototyping and HIL testing of industrial relays and controllers.
- Develop and validate DC Grid controls.
- Coordinate internal and external activities to implement specified HIL setups.
- Interact with customers throughout the sales process.
Additional Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a control room/SCADA interface for demonstration purposes.
- Create and maintain a shared competence within the Architecture and System program around communication and telecommunication techniques towards their application to HVDC grid automation, protection, and control.
- Participate in the structuration of the technical and commercial offer when necessary.
- Organize demonstration visits, publish technical papers, participate in conferences, and events.
Requirements
- Engineer or PhD in Electrical Engineering with 3-5 years of experience in modelling and simulation of electrical systems (high voltage).
- Strong knowledge of software such as PSCAD, EMTP, and/or HYPERSIM.
- Experience with power electronics and controls, HVDC switching and breaking equipment, fault current limiting technologies, and communication for electrical substation automation (IEC 61850 standard).
- Programming skills in C/C++ and Python (a plus).
- Good command of English.
