Assistant Director of Finance Position in St. Charles, IL

The City of St. Charles is seeking a highly skilled and experienced finance professional to fill the role of Assistant Director of Finance. This position will be responsible for coordinating and managing the daily operations of the Finance Department, including accounting, financial reporting, and treasury functions.
Key Responsibilities- Directly support the Director of Finance with setting goals and objectives for the department
- Coordinate and manage treasury functions, including investment management, accounting for capital improvement projects, financial reporting, and other complex accounting work
- Oversee the recording of financial accounting transactions daily, including ledgers, financial records, bank statements, and financial reports
- Ensure the accuracy of various accounting records, processes, and transactions related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll records, and quarterly payroll returns, and filing of W-2's and 1099's
- Develop and implement new or improved accounting practices and procedures and ensure adherence to reporting requirements and standards, including the implementation of GASB pronouncements
- Directly supervise six employees, assign and direct work, monitor productivity and conduct, establish performance standards, provide feedback, and assess performance and provide training and development
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
- Eight years of accounting experience, governmental accounting experience preferred, with thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and significant familiarity with governmental accounting standards board (GASB) standards and guidance
- Five years of supervisory experience
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to foster and maintain positive relationships throughout the organization
- Skilled in MS Office applications, MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc., and ERP-related financial software applications
- Ability to exercise professional independent judgment in planning own work, formulating recommendations, and making decisions
- Ability to foster engagement, solicit input from others, and facilitate collaborative work processes
Salary range of $115,002 to $161,003 with starting pay commensurate with experience.
