Join the Group Underwriting Office:

As part of the Group Underwriting Office, you will be integrated into the Short Tail Underwriting Team.

Role Overview:

The P&C sector is fundamental to AXA Group, operating across more than 20 territories with diverse operating models and market shares. The Group Underwriting Office is tasked with:

  • Guiding and managing sustainable and profitable growth of AXA's P&C operations globally, emphasizing excellence in risk management and technical domains. This includes underwriting governance, product approval processes, and portfolio management, necessitating close collaboration with claims management, reserving, catastrophe modeling, and reinsurance.
  • Establishing a robust risk and control framework to monitor exposure, allocate risk appetite, and ensure appropriate reinsurance practices.
  • Supporting underwriting initiatives that leverage innovative solutions and new technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enhance the underwriting process.
  • Promoting innovative insurance solutions that facilitate the construction industry's adaptation to climate change.

Key Responsibilities:

The P&C Commercial Underwriting Specialist for Construction and Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA) will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing Construction and Engineering products, including Construction All Risks (CAR) and Erection All Risks (EAR).
  • Managing Decennial Construction products and schemes, including Decennial Liability in France.
  • Handling short-tail DUA underwriting, which involves AXA's participation in schemes or products with delegated underwriting authority to third parties.

Stakeholder Engagement:

This role will involve collaboration with various stakeholders, including:

  • Group Sustainability Team, Group Risk Management, Group Legal, and Group Finance.
  • All P&C entities and regions within the Group, particularly Chief Underwriting Officers, Chief Risk Officers, Chief Financial Officers, Chief Actuaries, and Chief Claims Officers.

Challenges and Context:

The role requires technical expertise in P&C underwriting to effectively identify, assess, monitor, and manage the risks associated with natural events. Key challenges include:

  • A comprehensive understanding of insurance and reinsurance operations, with a focus on local regulatory and legal nuances.
  • Strong actuarial skills to interpret key metrics related to risk assessment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with multicultural teams.
  • Proven ability to conduct thorough underwriting reviews and share knowledge across departments.

Key Competencies and Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of P&C business operations, including underwriting, pricing, claims, reserves, and reinsurance.
  • Advanced expertise in actuarial and underwriting fields to challenge local underwriting heads effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills to manage multiple interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Persuasive communication skills to influence P&C strategy and operations at both Group and entity levels.

Technical and Professional Skills:

  • Deep understanding of Property and Construction insurance.
  • Proficiency in analyzing complex financial metrics related to insurance performance.
  • Knowledge of reinsurance treaties and practices.
  • Recognized expertise in loss prevention and risk engineering.

Soft Skills:

  • Natural leadership abilities.
  • Capability to deliver high-level presentations to senior management.
  • Agility in navigating a multifaceted P&C landscape.
  • Capacity to motivate and lead cross-functional teams while fostering collaborative relationships.
