Geospatial Analyst
Role SummaryThe Geospatial Analyst will play a crucial role in providing support across various divisions (environmental management, geology, mining operations, and infrastructure development) within the IMERYS PROJECT TEAM, focusing on geographical information systems and databases for multiple sites in France associated with the IMERYS PROJECT.
This position will also involve contributing to the formulation of the global GIS strategy for IMERYS.
Area of Focus: Lithium Initiatives
Travel Requirements: Based in the main office with occasional travel as necessary
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Geospatial Analyst will assist different departments within the project through the following responsibilities:
- Develop, utilize, and disseminate geographic system-based databases, files, and visual representations
- Gather, verify, categorize, archive, and publish geographical data received from internal teams, engineering partners, and public organizations
- Generate and export maps that incorporate various layers of information, including: land ownership, monitoring locations, protected environmental zones, existing and planned infrastructure, and mining areas
- Assess and refresh topographical data, surveys, and elevation models
- Transform GIS files into CAD formats and vice versa (including formats such as shapes, dwg, kmz, etc.)
- Provide GIS views upon request for permitting processes, environmental assessments, risk evaluations, and discussions with public infrastructure authorities, administrations, and local stakeholders.
The Geospatial Analyst will also engage in the development and implementation of a unified GIS framework within IMERYS.
The Geospatial Analyst is expected to uphold exemplary safety standards in all work areas by:
- Leading by example to influence others
- Demonstrating visible safety leadership
- Preparing and sharing best practice guidelines related to GIS systems and methodologies
- Creating maps that effectively highlight relevant information with appropriate layouts
The Geospatial Analyst will participate in the rollout of IMERYS Industrial Improvement (I-Cube) initiatives in mining operations by:
- Assisting in the formulation of action plans aimed at enhancing safety and operational efficiency
- Keeping informed about cutting-edge and emerging technologies in the GIS sector related to mining
The Geospatial Analyst must be adept and confident in presenting technical topics within their area of expertise to a broader audience, whether through training sessions, seminars, or online platforms.
Educational and Professional BackgroundEducation:
- Degree in Geospatial/Mining/Geology Engineering with a GIS qualification and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
Experience:
- Proven experience in GIS and geospatial engineering is essential
- Experience in mining is advantageous
- Background in project management and/or implementation
- Familiarity with topography, land, and aerial surveying
Technical Proficiencies:
- Expertise in ESRI GIS software or alternative GIS applications (QGIS required, ARCGIS preferred, web-based GIS)
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD required)
- Knowledge of geospatial or mining software such as Surpac and Leapfrog is a plus
- Strong computer skills, including databases, cloud technologies, and Google Suite
Language and Communication Skills:
- Proficiency in English and French at a professional level is required
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences across various management levels, as well as with external engineering firms
- Capability to quickly establish positive working relationships with a diverse range of individuals
