Job Title: Software Department Head F/H

Alstom is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Department Head to lead our software engineering team in the Alstom Digital & Integrated Systems business unit. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for driving the technological leadership and innovation within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Define and implement technical strategies and roadmaps in alignment with the business's objectives.
  • Drive the scaling of the software department in line with business expansion and provide technical vision and leadership for software engineering across multiple locations.
  • Manage the software engineering department's resource allocation in alignment with program-project prioritization.
  • Lead and manage software engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and develop team members, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Oversee the design, development, and delivery of high-quality software products.
  • Collaborate with product management, design, and other stakeholders to ensure successful product releases and ensure that programs-projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Ensure adherence to best practices in coding, testing, and deployment, and maintain high standards of software quality.
  • Drive the resolution of technical challenges and lead efforts to improve software engineering processes.
  • Establish metrics and monitoring systems to track performance and productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety railways standards and address security concerns throughout the software development lifecycle.
Requirements:
  • At least 3-5 years of experience leading large teams, and 7 or more years of software engineering experience.
  • A strong foundation in embedded software development practices, programming languages, architecture, and system design.
  • Management and knowledge of alternative practices such as Agile is desirable.
  • Technical knowledge in language RBSE or MBSE is desirable.
  • Ability to lead and manage teams effectively. Capable of mentoring, motivating, and guiding team members towards achieving technical excellence.
  • Effective communication with peers and senior leaders. Able to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders /mediate between technical and non-technical stakeholders and foster a collaborative environment within the team.
