Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Rennes (INSA Rennes) is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join the OHM research group within the FOTON Institute. This exciting opportunity focuses on developing innovative materials and nanostructures based on Indium Phosphide (InP) for cutting-edge applications in solar energy and quantum photonics.

The FOTON Institute is a renowned research unit specializing in photonics, optoelectronics, and materials science. The OHM group boasts extensive expertise in semiconductor materials and their integration on silicon substrates. This project leverages the unique combination of InP's exceptional optical properties with silicon's cost-effectiveness and abundance.

Research Focus

The PhD research will center around the fabrication and characterization of high-quality InP/Si nanostructures using molecular beam epitaxy. The primary objectives are:

  • Solar Hydrogen Production: Explore the potential of InP/Si heterostructures as photoelectrodes in water splitting devices for clean hydrogen generation.
  • Quantum Photonics: Develop single-photon sources and detectors operating at the telecommunication wavelength (1.55 μm) directly on silicon substrates, paving the way for advanced quantum optical technologies.
Candidate Profile

We seek a highly motivated and talented individual with:

  • A strong academic background in materials science, physics, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of semiconductor physics and device fabrication techniques.
  • Experience with molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential.
