Collectively, it advocates on behalf of more than 400,000 businesses in industries such as mining, retail, hospitality, manufacturing, infrastructure, financial services, energy, professional services, transport, and telecommunications.The chamber movement has a long history as a trusted voice for enterprise, championing business growth and national prosperity.Job DescriptionMedia Relations:* Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and producers in print, radio, and television.* Proactively pitch policy narratives to traditional media, securing interviews, op eds, and editorial coverage.* Monitor and analyse companies coverage and share of voice in traditional media, providing regular reports and recommendations.Content Creation:* Lead the creation of high-impact press releases, opinion pieces, and media kits tailored for traditional outlets.* Prepare the CEO and other spokespeople for media interviews, including message development and media training if applicable.Strategic Leadership:* Develop and execute targeted media strategies to amplify companies policy priorities in mainstream news.* Lead rapid response efforts to protect and enhance their reputation in traditional media during emerging issues. Campaign Management:* Plan and execute campaigns to promote the companies events, initiatives, and membership benefits.* Monitor digital trends and emerging platforms to ensure the companyremains relevant and competitive.Brand Management:* Ensure brand identity is consistently represented across all marketing and communication materials.* Develop and implement brand guidelines and oversee their application across various platforms.Oversee Publications Management:* Oversee the production and distribution of all Chamber publications, including policy reports, the Annual Report, newsletters, and other printed and digital materials.* Ensure publications are high-quality, timely, and aligned with their branding and messaging standards.Oversee Digital Marketing:* Manage digital presence, including website content, social media, and email marketing.* Utilize digital analytics to track performance and inform data-driven decision making.Oversee Website Management:* Oversee the management, maintenance, and continuous improvement of website.* Ensure the website is user-friendly, up-to-date, and aligned with branding, values and communication standards.Budget Management:* Develop and manage the media, communications and marketing budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.* Monitor expenditures and report on financial performance.Team Leadership:* Provide leadership and guidance to the Media Adviser and the Marketing and Membership Coordinator.* Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment, ensuring clear communication and effective workflow.* Foster a culture of creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement.* Manage external agencies and consultants to deliver best-in-class communications support.General Duties:* Other general work as directed by the CEO and the Chief of Policy and Advocacy.The Successful ApplicantQualificationsBachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.Postgraduate study desirable but not essential.Knowledge & InterestsStrong interest in business issues, politics, and current affairs.ExperienceAt least 8 years in senior communications roles, including 5+ years in management.Background in Chamber or B2B environments and experience with cross-functional teams is highly valued.Core CapabilitiesEstablished media contacts and strong stakeholder relationships in CanberraProven track record in delivering integrated communications strategies in complex, high-profile settings.Skilled in producing impactful content tailored to diverse audiences.Expertise in digital and social media platforms, analytics, and content strategies.Strong leadership and ability to influence senior executives and external stakeholders.Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.Proficiency in digital marketing, including social media, email marketing, and CMS.Experience in crisis communication, issues management, and media relations.Competence in website management and web analytics.Ability to craft and edit compelling copy for varied audiences.Excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills.What's on OfferAttractive Remuneration: Competitive salary package between AUD 150K - AUD 170K , plus superannuation.Purpose-Driven Work: Play a pivotal role in shaping outcomes that make a meaningful differenceWork-Life Balance: Enjoy additional leave during the Christmas shutdown period to recharge and spend time with loved ones.Wellbeing Support: Benefit from annual flu vaccinations and access to a free, confidential Employee Assistance Program.Inclusive Culture: Be part of a team that values your contribution, supports your growth, and fosters a collaborative environment.If you're ready to take on this exciting leadership opportunity as the Director Media and Communications, we encourage you to apply today.
