HSBC Continental Europe (HBCE) is the Group’s primary banking entity in Europe - based in Paris, France with branches in 10 countries. Since 2019 the entity has undertaken one of the largest transformations in the Group beginning with the transfer of banking and trading activities post-Brexit and continuing with a restructuring of the business to achieve itsambition of becoming the leading international wholesale bank in Europe.
The Wholesale Business Finance role is an important leadership position in the bank. Its purpose is to provide strategic direction and guidance to senior management within CMB and Banking in Continental Europe. The role is the business partner to the Head of CMB in Europe and therefore also has coverage of CMB activities in the non-ring fenced bank.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Lead a high performing Wholesale Business Finance function for Continental Europe, maintaining a common global operating framework and delivering strategic and financial business support while maintaining a strong controllership environment.
Drive business performance and support CMB and Banking leadership to make sound business decisions by
providing insightful forward looking business performance analytics, highlighting risks and opportunities, and providing strong commercial finance support.
Utilise globally consistent management information and reporting framework, providing key financial and non-financial information to business to support achievement of the CMB and Banking strategies.
Participate as a member of the CMB and Banking Executive Committees and various supporting committees.
Lead business strategic cost management activities ensuring cost targets are achieved and appropriate level of rigor is applied to achieve sustainable cost save targets.
Identify region and country trends, opportunities and threats leading to options for business action. Ensure that stakeholders fully understand the inherent risks and rewards, including the regulatory and tax implications, and assist in finding compliant solutions to support business growth.
Drive and control the financial implications of CMB and Banking’s strategic model to maximize returns and long-term financial sustainability.

**Principal Accountabilities**:

Impact on the Business/Function
- Assist in external reporting with HBCE CFO, GCMB and Banking CFOs and other group functions, in particular HBCE, HSBC Holdings plc Annual Report, Interim Management Statements and any investor relations presentations including CMB and Banking content
- Implement internal management reporting, overall MI and ad hoc papers for Heads of CMB and Banking. Also support CMB and Banking financial reporting for HSBC Holdings Board, EXCO, RMM etc. as required
- Play a strategic role in evaluating financial success of core strategies and key investments. Oversee regulatory capital utilized by Banking and CMB in Continental Europe.
- Ensure proactive management of controllable cost base
- Complete the implementation of financial and non-financial tools and reports that identify key business drivers and associated KPIs that guide management decision making and contribute to strategy formulation. Continually seek better ways to convert financial/non-financial data into intelligence that feeds improved business performance
- Lead annual financial planning process and estimate update for the region including preparation of summary analytics and presentations
- Contribute to annual and ad-hoc stress tests and recovery planning
- Development and analysis of product/segment P&Ls as appropriate
- Providing insight as to business performance and competitiveness versus competition
- Lead business case preparation and management for the region ensuring sound financial analysis and strategic alignment
- Work closely with the business to manage ALCO topics (e.g. liquidity, funding, IRRBB, capital management)
Implement best practice regarding Financial MI reporting globally. Work with Global/Regional Heads to embed usage of robust, consistent global and regional MI to track revenue, cost, PBT, economic profit and RWA utilization - “one version of the truth”. Ensure consistency of financial MI processes and procedures across all centres.
Establish controllable cost targets for the countries. Perform regular, regional cost reviews to influence greater financial efficiency within the countries. Export best practice and learn new best practice from other regions where possible.
Establish investment tracking mechanisms to determine investment performance and investment priorities.
