**YOUR ROLE**
Located in Paris and acting for HBCE (HSBC Continental Europe), the role holder supports HBCE CEO and HBCE Head of Strategy & Planning in administrative, financial, and operational activities. The role holder is responsible to ensure the monitoring of execution priorities, the coordination of the execution of strategic initiatives, and the preparation of the CEO’s governance meetings. To be successful, the role holder will need to develop working relationships with HBCE ExCo members in a complex and demanding environment, to support the execution of HBCE strategy in close collaboration with Global Businesses and Global Functions.
The role has a broad remit covering aspects of Chief of Staff support to the CEO, strategy, business analytics, business planning, and an overview on business performance management. Typical activities would include framework-driven problem solving, quantitative modelling and analysis, market and competitor reviews, and programme management. Day-to-day activities will vary given the current priorities of the business and as a result will require an element of flexibility according to current business needs.
Creativity, analytical precision, and comfort with ambiguity, are essential traits as your work will be used to enable leadership to make key decisions about the future direction of the Bank.
In this role you will carry out some or all these tasks:
- Assess enquiries directed to the CEO, determine the proper course of action and delegate to the appropriate stakeholders
- Assist the CEO to identify areas to focus efforts on and to set metrics for success
- Preparation of CEO meetings, briefings, presentation materials, leadership offsite events, as well as review CEO internal and external communications, reports, speeches, or presentations
- Organise and prioritise challenges & information for the CEO to facilitate decision making
- Act as a point of contact or gatekeeper between management and stakeholders
- Provide oversight and guidance to projects and programmes
- Lead the end-to-end creation of management documents, which challenge and inform about management decisions and ground areas to improve
- Establish and maintain a very close and effective working relationship with Business Finance, Central & Support Functions (DBS, for Digital Business Solutions), Global Businesses, regional strategy colleagues and other key internal stakeholders for various initiatives and requests
- Be a ‘go-to’ person for internal stakeholders for providing information from the CEO Office
- Work closely with country leaders and relationship managers to identify key strategic client relationships and connect them with local leaders
Conditions
- University degree with relevant qualification in financial services
- Ideally 5 years’ experience in financial services, consulting, M&A, corporate strategy, or equivalent, experience in a Chief of Staff role would be a plus
- Great analytical and quantitative modelling skills, ability to synthesize insights from data
- Effective communicator with outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Native speaking level in English (or equivalent) and proficiency in French, any other European languages is a plus
- Ability to influence and collaborate with multiple stakeholders including Senior Management, using one’s personal network to overcome complex scenarios
- Commercial mindset and ability to thrive in ambiguous situations, with a proven ability to work to tight deadlines, ensuring timely completion on all actions
- Knowledge of corporate governance requirements for banks, with sound understanding of front-line systems, policies and processes
- A self-starter and effective collaborator, able to work with autonomy
- A team player, open-minded, ready to contribute to an inclusive team culture
