- The global push toward carbon neutrality has intensified research into Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies, particularly in the transportation of CO₂ through pipelines. However, carbon steel pipelines are prone to corrosion, especially when impurities such as water, SOx, NOx or O₂ are present. Understanding the hydrodynamic conditions that influence corrosion processes is therefore crucial for ensuring pipeline integrity and long-term reliability. In real pipeline systems, CO₂ flow can exhibit complex regimes ranging from laminar to turbulent, influenced by pressure, temperature, and impurities. Replicating these flow conditions under controlled laboratory settings is essential for studying corrosion mechanisms and mitigation strategies
- A Taylor-Couette flow system comprising of two coaxial cylinders where one rotates relative to the other offers a promising means to reproduce pipeline-like flow regimes in a compact, controllable setup. By adjusting the rotational speed and geometric parameters, the system can simulate hydrodynamic behaviors comparable to those occurring in full-scale CO₂ pipelines, including laminar, Taylor vortex, wavy vortex, and turbulent regimes.- This study aims to leverage Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics to model CO₂ flow within a Taylor-Couette configuration (fig.1), thereby establishing a framework for correlating laboratory hydrodynamics to real-world pipeline conditions.- Therefore, this project is in conjunction with the **development of a constant composition reactor** for _in-situ, real-time corrosion measurement_ which requires a hydrodynamic environment that is translatable to CO₂ pipeline transport conditions. A detailed simulation of the **Taylor-Couette flow system** is needed to:

- 1. Determine feasible operating conditions that reproduce relevant pipeline flow regimes and flow rates,- 2. Validate the current reactor design or propose new geometrical dimensions (cylinder height, gap width, diameter ratio) suitable for replicating realistic hydrodynamic conditions.-
