Research Engineer in Numerical Mechanic

You will be attached to the Bars & Wires center in Process Department which is composed by 9 researchers working on development and deploying process solutions for ArcelorMittal. You will join the Simulation team composed by 2 researchers working on innovative solutions to improve the quality and predict the steel behavior during solidification phase and hot forming process for Long products. **Your role** In short term, you will take in charge R&D projects as project leader, propose new ideas, competitors and suppliers survey, university partnerships to generate new solutions in our plants. Business travels will allow you to work with partners in a worldwide perimeter. The job consists in managing Finite Element modelling where the main activities will consist in: - Supporting the development of R&D models in terms of numerical mechanic, to be integrated in finite element software. Medium and long term projects (>12 months) aiming to develop and improve models used to support plants. Models could be developed in collaboration with other labs of the group, or internally, and sometimes in consortium projects with other industrial groups and universities. Some examples: - Development of Crystal plasticity models - Porosity model dedicated to the geometrical evolution during deformation - Development of cracks propagation model - Study of iron anisotropy during rolling, - ... - Supporting the Long Products plants for technical assistances through hot forming process investigations by finite element modelling: short and medium term projects (6-18 months) consisting in solving plants quaility or production issues. Investigations are performed at several scales with different softwares: - "macroscopic" scale with softwares dedicated to the simulation of process modelling (WB Wicon for example, and internal developments): characterization and optimization of process parameters such product speed, reduction ratio,... - "microstructure" scale by finite modelling with the software Forge: characterization of stress/strain fields, temperature field, triaxiliaty...and also internal development such as development of porosities, risk of cracks occurrence,.. New or improved models must be coded directly in finite element software Forge in Fortran. Then, a very important phase is to test and validate the model via comparison with experiments in lab or plants. **Your Profile** - This part of the job necessitates good analytical skills, to perform literature survey and model development. Informatic skills are also required to code the models. - You hold a Master degree and/or PhD in Material specialist in Numerical modelling. - Advanced in English and French. - Minimum Requirements _ - Knowledge in Material science - Knowledge in Process Engineering - Knowledge in Finite Element or Numerical modelling - Knowledge on Forge software is welcomed - Coding with Python/Fortran - Innovative, curious and results oriented - Excellent social skills to work in project teams within a multi-cultural environment and different plant factories - Ability to travel worldwide. This part of the job needs a strong collaboration with plants, a good reactivity and sense of priorities to overcome urgent issues.
