Research Engineer in Decarbonation of Hot Rolling

You will be attached to Downstream Processes (DP), a multi-cultural cluster composed by 25 engineers and 11 technicians, organized in three teams, working on development and deploying process solutions for ArcelorMittal.
In short term, you will take in charge R&D projects as project leader, propose new ideas, competitors and suppliers survey, university partnerships to generate new solutions in our plants. Business travels will allow you to work with partners in a worldwide perimeter and to experience different working cultures.

You will be in charge of developing & deploying Hot Strip Mill process solutions, mainly designed to:

- adapt and/or reinvent existing processes to pursue the ArcelorMittal progress towards carbon neutral steel;
- adapt the process to design new steel products aligned with company's environmental committment and the market trends (light weighting & electrification of vehicles)
- participate actively of the digital transformation of ArcelorMittal
- improve the productivity & reliability of ArcelorMittal production lines.

Immediately, you will be involved in following activities:

- R&D projects dedicated to the decarbonation process for all hot strip mills within the ArcelorMittal group. The target is to reach 30% of CO2 emissions in 2030 and to be net-zero carbon in 2050.
- Projects related to the flatness defects during the cooling of the coil with numerical simulations based on Finite Element Analysis, (semi)-analytical models or based on artificial intelligence
- Be the Hot Strip Mill representative in two working groups that deal with current industrial problematics.
- Technical assistances to improve process conditions in Hot Strip Mills (capability, reliability, costs) composed by industrial trials, numerical simulations and process analyses for different sites of ArcelorMittal, in a worldwide perimeter.
- To participate to the digitalization process of the company with the development of cutting-edge tools
- To support new product and sensor developments to improve the process.

**Minimum Requirements**:

- Knowledge in Solid Mechanics and Finite Element Method
- Knowledge in Thermal transfers
- Programming skills (especially Python, another language is a plus)
- Autonomous, innovative,curious and results oriented
- Excellent social skills to work in project teams within a multi-cultural environment
- Ability to travel worldwide.

**Other requirements**:

- Experience in metallurgy or forming process
- Knowledge in Machine Learning algorithms and Deep Learning frameworks (TensorFlow) will be a plus
- Experience with Abaqus
- Advanced communication skills
- PhD will be a plus
