Maizières Packaging Products centre aims at developing products (new steel grades and coatings) and associated processes (formability, in-use properties including can durability) to promote a competitive offer for ArcelorMittal in the packaging market worldwide. Packaging portfolio is divided into 7 R&D programs covering the development of new products (steel & coatings) and new generic steel solutions, developments in breakthrough and customer and plant support. R&D Packaging team is made up of over 30 members involved in nearly 60 different projects gathering multi-disciplinary R&D teams (specialists in metallurgy, coatings, forming, corrosion resistance,...)

Maizières Products centre is seeking a research engineer in mechanical engineering (and/or in structural mechanics) within the R&D research group dedicated to the Packaging market.
The applicant will combine advanced mechanical engineering skills and high level numerical modelling capabilities to contribute to the development of advanced steel solutions and co-engineering projects to achieve win-win value creation with our customers on the packaging market.

This position will offer the applicant the opportunity to work in a dynamic and multi-disciplinary environment with people working on forming, coatings, corrosion and metallurgy and will provide him/her a wide autonomy for technical actions in any domain with the different project stakehoders (pilot plant, development and commercial team,...). Cooperative work with other ArcelorMittal R&D community or external partners is required.

The applicant will be expected to:

- Provide our customers with technical support with the purpose of continuously improving the performance and the cost-effectiveness of steel containers,
- Develop new steel containers in close collaboration with our customers,
- Contribute to the development of new steels for packaging through the definition of optimum steel specifications,
- Implement more sophisticated numerical tools to strengthen our knowledge on the relationship between mechanical properties of steels for packaging, their formability and the in-use properties of steel containers,
- Develop knowledge in the mechnaical characterization of steels for packaging,
- Implement innovative forming processes in breakthrough with the existing ones to promote our steel offering,

He/she will gradually take the responsibility of managing research projects and technical supports to customers.
He/she will be assisted by research technicians who report to him/her.

Punctual business travels mainly in Europe are to be expected

**Job requirements**:

- The applicant will have been awarded a PhD degree in a field related to the mechanical engineering in priority or, if not, a Master degree in mechanical engineering.
- Fluent (speaking and writing) in French and English. Spanish would be an asset.
- Able to analyse a complex process to integrate external knowledge and to implement practical solutions.
- Able to propose new ideas and to develop them
