Assistant Climate Risk Manager Hbce, Nature Risks

**ROLE PURPOSE**:
Climate & Nature related Risks are a relatively new focus for the Financial Services Industry and an important area of attention in HBCE with increasing expectations from the regulators. HSBC’s response to Climate Change is a sensitive and high-profile area of considerable interest to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Climate Change poses different risks to the stability of the financial system and these risks are collectively referred to as Climate & Environmental Risks. The requirement to identify and manage impacts from Climate & Environmental change results in necessary changes to our risk management framework, risk appetite, data infrastructure, strategy, reporting and oversight arrangements.

The job holder’s primary responsibility will be to deliver in conjunction with the Business and Second line of defence, a forward-looking enterprise - wide Nature-related risk management framework in compliance with local and European regulations, Group Risk Management Framework and associated policies.
This role will require to deal with a wide range of stakeholders (including Credit Risk Management, Traded Risk, Finance, Compliance, Transformation; Line of Businesses etc.) at Group and regional levels.
The job holder’s responsibility will also be to deliver under the supervision of the Lead HBCE ESG, and Climate Risks actions plan related to regulatory requirements.

The job holder is expected to employ innovative and logical thinking, to manage climate and environmental risks in HBCE with the various businesses and functions.

More specifically, the role holder’s objectives will be:

- Support the HBCE ESG & Climate Risk senior manager, in the implementation of HSBC’s approach to Environmental Risk in Continental Europe perimeter (including Germany and Malta), in liaison with the Group, the Region (Europe Climate Risk team) and the HBCE Corporate Sustainability team.
- Design Nature / Environmental related risks approach, consistent with the Risk management framework and the Group Climate Risk approach
- Participate to the dissemination of Climate and Nature related risk culture across all Lines of Defense
- Participate to French and European industry working groups dedicated to environmental risks (e.g., Fédération Bancaire Française, pilot for HSBC the inter-banks projects related to those risks such as TNFD)
- Influence and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders across HBCE Business and Functions to deliver enterprise-wide risk management as it relates to nature-related risk (e.g., credit, market, operational, liquidity, model)
- Ensure that Regulatory expectations set by ECB, ACPR and AMF, across Environmental Risk are met
- Work closely with stakeholders across first line, second line and third line of defence.
- Review processes and procedures to ensure Nature-related Risk requirements are well set up and include in all required internal policies and implement necessary changes
- Support the Lead HBCE ESG & Climate Risks in the management of ESG Governance Committee / Risk Management Meeting), and European governance committee

There is a high volume of work which will require a thorough and thoughtful response, ensuring deadlines are met in an often time pressured environment. It will be necessary for the role holder to be highly adaptable and resilient.

- Support the development, assessment, and implementation of HSBC Continental Europe’s approach to nature-related Risk
- Contribute to the definition and the implementation of environmental risks KPI with lines of business, Risk and ESG DAO teams
- Ensure effective communication and understanding of relevant changes across key stakeholder
- Support the HBCE ESG & Climate risks senior manager in the implementation of the physical Risk stress tests and of the new regulatory requirements related to the public disclosures / non-financial reporting of environmental risks, coordinating the actions across lines of business, Finance, Risk and IT

**Customers / Stakeholders**:

- Engage with internal stakeholders, initiate working groups, obtaining required inputs and ensuring progress is well understood
- Participate to French and European industry working groups dedicated to environmental risks (e.g., Fédération Bancaire Française, pilot for HSBC the inter-banks projects related to those risks such as TNFD)
- Support the lead HBCE ESG & Climate Risks in the realisation of regular update of HBCE Risk Committee, the HBC Risk Management Meeting, the HBCE Climate and ESG Risk governance committee
- Communicate and train on the nature-related risk framework HBCE stakeholders and ensure that the framework is understood and deploy across business/functions
